Collections
The last doll was unwrapped and placed reverently on the shelf. Chacha stood back and gazed at the large display. What a change since Gackt and You had given him those first two dolls! He’d been livid with them for making fun of his birthday, yet the tradition and beauty of those first dolls grew on him, and he’d ended up proudly setting up the display and eagerly awaiting the gift of the new dolls or accessories each year since. Though he’d never actually admitted that to anyone. Now, as he placed the last of the dolls on the lowest tier of the display he felt a little pang of sadness. Kind of like after the final show of a concert tour.
He sat down on the couch across the room, picked up his drink, and smiled.
You walked into the room. “What are you doing, Cha?”
Chacha sighed. “Just enjoying the full beauty of the dolls,” he answered, eyes sparkling.
You sat down beside him and slid his arm around his lover’s shoulders. “They are pretty. I always liked my sister’s dolls when I was little, and kinda felt cheated ‘cause I didn’t get any.”
Gackt walked in and set a small fruit-topped birthday cake with three candles on top on the table in front of the couch. He sat down on Cha’s other side, kissing him on the cheek. “Well, now that the collection’s complete what’ll we do for your birthday next year?”
Chacha sat quietly for several seconds, gazing at the dolls. Then he closed his eyes, made a wish, and blew out the candles. “Start a new collection?” he asked hopefully.
