Title: First Snow- a chacha's cats story

First Snow
Ju-ken turned off the highway and onto the narrow country road that led to the small house in the mountains. He slowed and turned into the driveway. “We’re here, Ene-tan,” he said to the small white puppy who was sleeping in the middle of the back seat.
Eneru’s ears perked up at the sound of his name. He jumped up from his nap, smiling broadly, and tail flipping happily. He couldn’t wait to see his friends Yu and Kamui, even if Kamui liked to tease him all the time.
Yu lay in a sunny spot on the rug in front of the sliding doors to the porch. He watched as Ju-ken got out of the car and walked around to get the dog.
Kamui walked out to stand beside the sleek gray-striped cat. ”What’s going on?”
”Eneru’s here", Yu answered.
”Oh this should be good", Kamui smirked.
The two cats watched as Ju-ken set Eneru down on the snow-covered ground.
Eneru was so happy to see Yu and Kamui at the door that he didn’t even notice the fluffy white stuff on the ground- until Ju-ken put him down and his feet sank into the cold, wet snow. ”What the heck is this stuff?!”
Eneru picked his feet up one at a time as high as he could, setting them back down on the ground gingerly as he tried to walk on this strange white stuff without touching it. After three steps he stopped, holding one back foot straight out behind him and wondering if he could lift the other three without falling over, only to land on his nose when he tried. “Da-ad,” he whined plaintively.
Ju-ken gave a sympathetic smile and picked up the confused puppy. “Come on, Ene-tan. It’s just snow. You’ll get used to it.”
Chacha came out and opened the door as Ju-ken and Eneru made their way to the porch.
Yu and Kamui jumped up and moved away from the cold air that snuck in through the open door.
“Dumb dog,” Kamui snorted.
Yu’s eyes narrowed. ”I seem to remember someone else doing the same thing when we first got here.”
Kamui’s eyes opened wide. ”You wouldn’t tell, would you?” Kamui pleaded as he settled on the rug in front of the fireplace. It wouldn’t do to ruin his “bad ass” reputation with the younger puppy.
Yu settled in next to the black and white cat, and started to wash the top of Kamui’s head. ”Not if you promise to be good and not tease him about it.”
Kamui began to purr contentedly. ”You drive a hard bargain, Yu-chan, but that’s why I love you so much."
“Well, it’s a hard job, but somebody’s got to do it,” Yu purred, and snuggled into his dearest friend.
