Yesterday I went out with my friends Enrique and Meryl to the 11th International Book Fair, and I was thrilled about it because an Argentinian cartoonist, Maitena, was going to give a conference and sign books.

I've loved her work since I first saw her weekly page like a year or so ago, and when my girlfriend told me she would present on Thursday 20, I told my mum I HAD TO GO. I'm still sick, and I haven't gone out since I started feeling sick, and that was by the start of July. Of course I'm not counting the ins and outs of the clinic. So I met Nriq first at my house and went to the bank for him to get some money out, and then we went to buy some corn bread for me. Because of this jksdfbdnsd allergy I cannot eat bread nor anything made from wheat, but I can eat corn; so I bought some corn bread and ate it enjoying each mouthful, I hadn't eaten bread for more than a week! Then we went to the place where the Fair was held but we still needed to wait for Meryl. Luckily she showed up minutes later Nriq and I had been scandalizing about the outrageous taxi wages in a pannel, and we entered the Fair. Whilst looking books and stuff we found a cool spot, Contracultura, and there a pile of Maitena's 2004 Agendas, and it costed only 2 soles! That's ... um... $ 0.75 or so; cheapery cheap! And Nriq had the idea of me buying it and going to the conference and having it signed. I did as I was told, and set off for the long line waiting to enter the conference. Luckily I got there on time, because had I been behind in the line I couldn't have been able of listening to her. She gave a great conference, so funnny and so real, telling us things from her childhood and her future plans, and everybody left happy when she finished. Now was the signing, and I was ahead in the line, but I heard one of the guards calling a policeman and saying "Oy, take those two out of there! They're robbers!" And the people in the first spaces in the line were kinda scared, but nothing else happened. Maitena showed up and sat on a chair behind a table, and the officers began to send the people to her. Obviously some folks wanted to gain a space at the beggining, but the most they could achieve was to make some rattle and noise, because no one was to give up on their space. I got the old agenda signed and when she saw it she said "Ooooh, you've still got that one?" but I said I had found it somewhere, and had I not found I wouldn't be there at all. I told her I'm studying Architecture, and she said, smiling, "¿Sí? Bueno, hacé cosas bonitas, ¿eh? Que hay arquitectos que hacen cada boludez...!" (Yeah? Well, do good things, eh? Because there are some architects that do every stupid thing...!) I was thrilled when she said it! ;D I said good-bye after it and left the line, I could feel my ears extremely red and hot, just like when I'm embarrassed or nervous =) I met Nriq and Meryl again and he bought a book and then we went to get drinks for them, but I couldn't drink their maracuya because it's acid and I cannot eat acid things =/ After it my dad called and said I should get moving now, so we went to get our buses.

It was a great day after all, because until we found the 2004 Agenda I didn't expect to have her autograph at all =) I told my mum about it and she congratulated me for achieving what I wanted, and she said "If I had given you the money to buy her book just because I felt pity of you it'd've been too easy. We parents must let out children to open their wings and things by themselves." It was kinda cool, but I still wanted a Maitena book ¬¬

Here's the autograph =)

On another note, recently I just remembered of an actress who showed up a little while in The OC, Samaire Armstrong. I've been looking up for photos, and I've found some pretty ones. Guess I'll look for some more, because I'm never satisfied ;D

me, maitena
