6. I think Cordy envied Buffy because Buffy was making a difference in the world. She was doing something substantial, unlike Cordy and her "fluff" life.
oh how i love this episode! words cannot express.. except they can. i loved faith at the dance. that was really sweet of her. but cordelia.. OH CORDY! you made me deathly afraid of the spatula.
"Cordelia: Whatever. The point is, I haven't even broken a sweat. See, in the end Buffy's just the runner up. I'm the queen. You get me mad, what do you think I'm gonna do to you? "
I realy want to see that now! Actually I can actually hear & see Cordy doing it (with a glove on natch); I had a good friend doing the Xena cry in my ear on the Pride march in Glasgow a couple of years ago.
And that line of Cordy's is one of my favourites from the entire run of the show.
She wasn't to be messed with, that lassie. No sirree!
Ah, yes, Slayerfest '98 AKA the episode where Faith is Buffy's official date. ;) I like this episode a lot, though I really couldn't care less about all the campaigning to get the crown stuff. (Well, OK, Buffy's Big Board is great.)
1. Cordelia, I guess. Though being non-American, I'm honestly not sure what the purpose of this sort of thing is and just what they would have won.
2. Willow. Awww.
3. Xander. Awww.
4. Kinda. They're both freaked about being in a Real RelationshipTM and so they regress, fall back on something that feels safe
( ... )
1. Cordelia. Because regardless of how awful it was that she didn't tell Buffy about the yearbook photos, she is still the classic joiner--she's a cheerleader and involved in all sorts of school crap. Buffy just showed up with a muffin basket and some campaign posters one week. I mean, obviously there are reasons she wasn't heavy into after-school activities. But from a purely objective standpoint... So, yeah. Cordelia for Homecoming Queen
( ... )
I don't know. I have a vague memory of her painting a sign for something, and then stopping to say something mean to Buffy (maybe in School Hard?). For some reason, I had the impression it was for something other than cheerleading. But even if she's just a cheerleader, that's an activity that tends to bleed into all sorts of school-spirit things--bake sales, car washes, pep rallies, going to all the sporting events. It sort of forces you to participate. And at least at my high school, there was sort of this unwritten rule that Homecoming had to do with school spirit (along with normal popularity stuff), while prom was more about being pretty and nice and popular.
Yeah, I think it's just more that she's a cheerleader. I don't see her doing other stuff outside of cheerleading (and the stuff she does for cheerleading like bake sales, but really? Baking? Nope. She's Dip Girl). 'Cause that's party time. Like look at the way she kinda looks down on the Yearbook people or mocks the marching band.
Cheerleading is her team and it's the bestest! Supremacy! We are so unsung. :P
Hmm I'd say Cordelia because she seems more like the type of person to take part in high-profile school events, and really care about those type of popularity contests. Like Homecoming Queen would probably have been something that she thought about for years/worked up towards (er if that makes sense)
I understand Buffy was feeling nostalgic about the popular girl she had been in LA, but campaigning for Homecoming Queen seemed like more of a whim then something that really made sense for someone that was generally presented as an outsider at the school. Not that she didn't have every right to run still, but I voted Cordy deserved it as it seems like more her type of thing. There's no denying that they both put the effort in this episode though *g*

This is also the first episode with the Mayor, isn't it? I guess I should have had a question about him.

Besides being a cheerleader what else is she involved in though?
