Ah, no links this week, folks. I go back to school tomorrow, and I'm using the day to prepare and reacquaint myself with my courses (after having ignored them all week).

Just a quick fic-related note, though:

- I am working on a Robin/Spike slash fic (cause...it must be done). I'm a fangirl of both characters, but having read some past Read more... )

ot, btvs, gabs' oh-so-exciting life, fic-writing

Just to muddy the waters further, my understanding is that race issues for Brits play out differently than for Americans, so that's another wrinkle to consider. Aren't I helpful?

They do. But seeing as Buffy is an American TV show, I think it's safe to use that lens of looking at the racial dynamics.

Indeed, although the ep "Pangs" might give you a way into Spike's worldview.

Ah, I don't really need help on the Spike side of things. I want to make sure my white privilege doesn't cause me to do a disservice to Robin in any way.

P.S. Did not mean that comment to sound abrasive! Just saying Buffy + race sometimes makes me nervous, heh.

lol! Nah, didn't sound abrasive. I'm often curt in my responses so I don't notice much if other people are, as well. :)

Race issues in BtVS...not a pretty subject.

It's totally cool if you're coming at it from a Wood-ish perspective, obviously. I just get into a whirling world of woo hoo over the idea of an educated, Beverly Hills black guy dealing with an educated, Victorian Brit who is trying to bury in himself all that the other guy has to work hard to maintain. The class issues alone are boggling. That the race issues are not likely to matter much to Spike, but can't help but matter to Wood is fascinating. The other layers: matricide, the supernatural, pursuit of excellence, Slayer obsession. It's a potentially rich stew. Good luck, darling!

It is fascinating, isn't it? I'm throwing some alcohol into the entire mix and seeing what happens (personally, I'm hoping for some hate!sex). :)
