...whereas "Daughter" is more complex.
Devilla has been a riot and living up to her nickname lately. Several weeks ago, I had her in the tub and dashed out of the bathroom to change my shirt into something I didn't mind getting wet. When I get back, she's out of the tub with a handtowel wiping up bubbles and water on the floor and side of the tub.
"What happened here?" I ask.
"Thomas came in and splashed water out of the tub!" she explains complete with dramatic hand gestures.
"Is that really what you want to tell me happened?" I ask.
"That is what happened."
"Angela, Thomas has been reading out loud in his room and I heard him in there the whole time I was gone."
"Oh." You could just see her thinking that wasn't the best lie to tell then, was it? And yes, she got punished for lying.
Fast forward to last week. I get a call from her teacher that there was an incident on the playground and a little boy hit Angela in the face. Ordinarily, it cracks me up that she likes to get rowdy with the boys -- mostly because it freaks the Admiral out a little bit. But I guess things went too far. The boy in question (Nick) is really her good friend and not aggressive so we chalked it up to the excitement of being outside after many cold days inside and the class got a lecture on school rules etc. Angela barely has a little bruise. The next day she had school, though, they were playing tag and Nick tagged Angela who immediately started making these whining noises and pointing at him (as reported by the teacher). "Eh, eh, eh -- come back here, come back here!" she kept whining and calling to him until he finally came back up to her -- at which point she touched his shoulder and said, "Tag, you're it." and ran off laughing.
This past weekend, while playing tag with her, the Admiral says he could tell she was trying to figure out a way to trick him into getting closer to her.
Should I sort her Slytherin?
Last night at St. Thomas's soccer practice. Angela went to the playground and another mother with a younger child went to watch while I stayed with Tess. The other mom came back to say, "Angela is not shy at all is she?" Apparently, there were a couple boys from another team practicing on the field who she ordered off the playground. "You better go now, your team is waiting for you, you're late! No really, go, GO!" And the older boys went, succumbing to her authoritative manner and tone. In the mean time she's running up to everyone introducing herself and inviting them to play.
I'm on the edge of my seat wondering what she'll do today.
