I am still disappoint. (Spoilers will be blacked out, promise! ^_^)
As I (and most of the Internet) expected, the X-Person that was killed off in the recent BIGEVENTSTORYTHING was Nightcrawler! ;_; I guess I'm kinda lucky that I knew beforehand, so that it wasn't such shock. I know, shocks are part of the story, you ruin the story if you spoil yourself first. That's true. When said shock is the result of good storytelling and not we're going to do this because it will shock you and we don't care if it's the "Wow, I wasn't expecting that to happen, that's really sad but it was very moving" kind of shock or the "I can't believe you (expletive deleted) did this! There's no point! You just want to piss everyone off!" kind of shock. So yeah, I'm pretty sure if I hadn't known and suddenly found out, I would've been like:
Followed by:
But instead, it's more like this:
But seriously, why do it?! Why Kurt?! Other than the fact that you don't know what to do with the character, but they're also a fan-favourite so it will have a reaction. It's been a problem in comics for a long time though, it's not a new thing. Just kill someone off to either shock people or get rid of a character than you're not using. But a character death in comics ain't what it used to be. Especially when you do it every other big event. It's even more annoying, because I'm sure there were writers who would have loved to use this character, but were told "No, mutants are only allowed to be on X-books, even if though we've got way too many characters". Off the top of my head, I can already think of one X-book (that is far superior than all the rest at the moment) where this character would've been awesome on! And the writer writes people in character too! And not all characters have to die in order for writers to not have to use them anymore! Iceman left the X-Men, went to college and became a certified accountant when he left (I'm half sure that's what happened, I'm kinda ragey at the moment, haha). Claremont didn't kill him off because he didn't like writing him! They could very easily go and do other things! And then come back when a writer wants them to!
I will say that at least the death wasn't a crappy one, and the art was pretty good. The character went out like they should have. It wasn't a stupid kind of Prison Break death I hated, hated, hated that Michael died at the end!!! or some random death where it was the character doing something stupid and out of character. There are plot holes, of course, but there we are.
A lot of people are saying that they'll be back soon enough, but Jean Grey's the queen of coming back from the dead and she still hasn't come back yet. To be honest, I doubt they will come back. Being a fan-favourite means pretty much nothing these days. It's all about what the people working at Marvel prefer, and apparently fun, lighthearted characters like Kurt aren't what they have in mind.
So, in short, Marvel:
cos you like to wreck everything I like (;_; I MISS NICE, SMART PETER PARKER!), and if this character ever comes back, I'm pretty sure I won't be reading comics by that time, with the way things are going now. The only things I have to be happy about are:
- Bendis is writing Ultimate Spider-Man.
- PAD is writing X-Factor.
- I'm lucky I like the FF, cos I doubt they'll be killing them off any time soon.
- I can at least read X-Men Forever if I want an in character Kurt, no matter what the stories are like.
But like I said, Marvel and me don't like the same things at the moment, so:
And now some cuteness to de-rage myself. XD
On an unrelated note, I was surprised at how strong Mabo is when I watched the scene in the 2nd gif! I've started watching Yasuko to Kenji, but that's for another time. I love it though! :D I also watched Doctor Who, and I swear I felt like there was something in my eye for the rest of the day. XD
