I moved into a new house. I signed up for a telephone and Internet service.
Did you catch it? Read it again..."I signed up for a telephone and Internet service."
Notice that I did NOT say that I signed up for cable TV.
Everyone seems to make the assumption that when one has a place of residence, said place of residence has cable television. Why is this? Do we not have enough ways to entertain ourselves that we need to pay money each month for bad TV? (Yes, I know the Internet costs money and is a time-waster as well) Why does everyone sound so surprised when I say that I do not have cable and will not be getting it? That I did not have it when I lived alone and see no need for it now. People gasp and try to convince me what a good deal the Comcast Triple Play is. I am paying $35 a month total for basic phone service (which I don't use much since I have a mobile, but it's good to have for emergencies or if I'm low on minutes) and DSL (the slower speed since it's just me and Netflix streaming seems to work fine). I see no need to pay an additional $100 for the addition of cable, even if it comes with unlimited phone service. Am I crazy? Sometimes I feel like perhaps I should just sign up so people stop harassing me.
