Mmph.

I can't help but feeling like I shouldn't have been so happy lately. I feel like I jinxed myself.

Joe and Dexter got in a NASTY fight on Wednesday which necessitated Joe going to the e-vet and the dog sitter going to the emergency room. She tried to break up the fight - not smart with 2 50+ plus pit bulls.

Needless to say, Dexter is not coming back to our house.

We had to spend $1300 on the e-vet, and it's unknown how much the dog sitters bills are going to cost us. No new dining room table for me this month. Sigh.

Also - we're not going to foster dogs anymore. This is 2 fights and one growling match Joe has gotten into with other dogs. My dog isn't exactly starting the fights, but he seems to have this attitude which makes other dogs want to kick his ass. And they do.

Side note to folks with more than one dog - the best way to break up a fight when you are by yourself is this:

Get a leash and loop the handle around the door knob on the opposite side of the door. Pull it taut through the doorway and shut the door. This will prevent the handle of the leash from slipping off the knob. Push the fighting dogs toward the door. Attach the leash to one dog's collar - preferably the dog that has the weaker grip on the other dog. If you have a break stick, use it. If not, pull the back legs of the unleashed dog so they are off the floor. This will prevent the dog from getting traction and force it to release it's hold on the other dog.

Of course, with small nasty dogs like chihuahas or something, I'd just stay the hell out of the way. They dart and nip (where bully breeds bite and hold) and they cause a lot of damage. I'd just let them wear themselves out.
