Apologies to all who are owed correspondence and have not received any from me.
Things are still pretty hectic and may not die down for awhile. This weekend was moving weekend, and everything has been moved. Not everything has been set up, not by a long shot, but the place is habitable and setting up is now a lower priority than before. The idea was that the move would be completed this weekend, and I could then focus on getting a leg up on this big project at work, and then get a new car.
The Saab Gods would have none of that. I go out to the car this morning and the clutch is out. Again. Just like a month ago.
Only this time I didn't tow it, but instead had enterprise pick me up. I asked for a compact car for a week, but got Jeep Liberty instead. Hopefully a week will be enough to take care of the situation. (Jeep Liberties: I can kind of see the appeal, but the whole thing still feels wrong. For a roadcar anyway. The thing has torque and visibility and that's about it.)
My plan is such:
Brand new scion tC. I want RELIABILITY above all else, and the scion is a decent enough car for that. Similar horsepower numbers as the Saab, so no real step down there. Image be damned, all new cars look awful to me anyway. Debt be damned--long haul it will probably be cheaper than the automotive choices I've made in the past. If I do decide to leave Dallas as I was considering earlier in the year, I can always sell it.
Now the fun part of all this...
Because of this summer's activities, I have exactly 48 minutes of vacation time left. I can't take a day or two off to deal with this, unless of course I go unpaid for them. With the overlaps in rent, car rental, and all the upcoming expenses, I don't want to do that.
But..
.. lest you think I'm bitching and moaning, I'm not. I'm even willing to concede that I would not have pursued the car issue as intensely as I am now if the Saab hadn't magically immobilized itself. Allot is happening all at once, yes, but that's just chance; things are heading for a better place and this is the transitional period is all.
And if I were the religious type, right up until noon I might have cursed God. But then, he did something special:
The girl from Enterprise that picked me up was not wearing a brassiere. The angle of her top was such that I had a very nice view of her naked bosom. As we were driving up 75 making pleasant small talk, I realized that damn, it's been awhile since I've seen one of those in the flesh and what a nice treat it was. It was certainly hard to keep from grinning the entire time.
My new place is nice. Pics to follow at some point.
Now I have to go study for crisis center training tomorrow.
