poisonkitty had perhaps the best and most balanced advice on combating burnout. One element of the advice was specific to my profession: software guys need physical projects.

It made complete sense. I'd been doing that in some form or another, but hearing it from someone else put it into perspective. It didn't matter how crazy or bizzarre the project was

That's a really cool project. Have you considered hooking up an X-10 remote control to your cabinet to control lighting and other misc stuff?

An X10 setup would free up some cabinet space quite nicely; it is something I had not considered before. As it stands, just about every bank of lights has wires running to the rightmost cabinet, which has created quite a mess.

I'm planning to move to a different place, so this upgrade will be coming afterwards..
