In March I went back to Cocos Island National Park, Costa Rica. Cocos is well-known in the scuba diving community for sharks, sharks, and more sharks, and it really is a special place. I *finally* finished editing the photos from our most recent dive trip. This round of editing was delayed a bit as I learned to use Lightroom, although it didn't help that I had about 1900 photos to go through. (No, I didn't edit them all, thankfully!)

We're home from our last diving trip of 2010, and boy, was it something. Frederick and I travelled to the Republic of Maldives, an island country about 400 miles southwest of the tip of India, and almost exactly on the other side of the planet from San Francisco.

We recently got back from a dive trip to Cocos Island, 300+ miles west of Costa Rica, where we participated in a shark and turtle tagging expedition. I took photos and posted them with the journal I kept during the trip. Take a look: http://www.g-na.org/cocos.html

Anyone who knows me knows I love sharks. A lot. I will dive with sharks whenever possible, but unfortunately that is not as often as you might expect; there aren't many sharks left in the oceans (they are being killed at the rate of about 100,000,000 per year!) and the ones that are left are quite shy and scared of people. Yup, I'll admit it, I'm a size queen. I like 'em big - the bigger the better! And my husband knows this, so he rented me a huge one as a Christmas present, and it was incredible.

On Wednesday Frederick and I drove out to Chimney Rock at the tip of Point Reyes to help release seven rehabilitated sea lions back into the wild. It's days like this that make up for all the hard work I've done.
