It's Sunday morning and I actually feel pretty good. I've spent the past couple of days feeling very antisocial and a bit depressed. Funny enough, I didn't really feel sad, but rather, I was quite content wallowing in self-pity for a day or two.

I wonder if it's "normal" to go through periodic depressions? I'm not speaking of chronic depression ( Read more... )

I think it's totally normal. In fact I think that you are more likely to go through a serious freak-out if you don't occasionally allow yourself to sit at home alone and mope about nothing. Moping and wallowing are both necessary, in my opinion. It is not normal to be happy or even content all the time.

Well, if you believe the last year's worth of Adbusters, the only reason anyone ever feels anything less than total fulfillment is because our entire species is alergic to western society. Oh, and it's all a conspiracy to sell Prosac.
I liked Adbusters a lot more when they spent most of their time doing parody ads and busting on Philip Morris. They've just gotten way too humorlessly shrill recently.

I think these periods are cyclical. Sure, they usually get cued by some negative thing in your life, but I think as long as you bounce back in a couple days, it's normal. In a way, at those time I feel I'm being "reset". I can't always go floating around without a feeling of where my ground is, and that gives me a sense of my bottom.
