The Skinny on Dad and the Snowman

Oct 26, 2009 00:41

You guys remember that pic of my dad that I posted a while back when I was doing the share meme? I finally got the story behind it!

So, Dad was actually around 17 or 18 in the pic (which freakin' blows my mind), meaning it was around 1977 or 1978. Dad lived in San Jose, (northern) California at the time, and he and his brother had gone up into the mountains there after it had snowed (Dad said every six or seven years or so and it would snow there) and they packed some snow into their truck and drove it back down to San Jose (which I think is kinda hilarious!) and my dad built that snowman on his brother's front porch and then they snapped the pic.

He told me that the two of them also made a second snowman and left it on the doorstep of a local AM radio station (it was around Christmastime, hence the snow :-)), and later on they heard the DJs on the radio talking about how much they liked the snowman present that was left anonymously on their doorstep! HAHA! Dad said they wrote a little "Merry Christmas" sign on the snowman, too. HEHE!

I think that's one of the coolest stories from my Dad's youth I've ever heard. Okay, I haven't heard that many, to be honest, but I think that's pretty neat. My dad's an uber creative guy. He's actually helping Honey and me with our Halloween costumes right now! LOL.

I, also, am dying to go back to California a little more than ever now. Dad lived in San Jose for a LONG while (that's where my mom met him), and I also lived there when I was 2, but I don't remember it. At all. We moved back to the East Coast shortly after and Dad married Mom and we've been here ever since. So I'm an East Coast girl through and through, but there's always been a place in my heart for sunny California! :-) One day I'll make it back there. One day!
