Oh, hey, one more working day left and I've got another three-day weekend.

So, yeah, walked out of here last night wanting an early bedtime but decided as soon as I got home to take "just a few minutes" to convert some files and copy them to my Blackberry. So I wound up going to bed at 12:15, because I'd grabbed a lot more files than I'd really realized, and it took for-freakin'-ever for them to convert and save.

The other annoying thing that happened last night was reaching my car in the parking garage, setting my backpack into the passenger's seat, rummaging through the side pocket where I'd stuck my rings when I swung by the ladies' restroom on the way out of work, and finding only one of the three rings there waiting to be put back on. I checked around and under my bag, around and under my car, and then retraced my steps -- through the garage, back into the building, up the stairs to the seventh floor, and back into the restroom, checking the floors and corners all the way, and even looking in the wastebasket in the restroom. Nothing -- either they bounced out of the pocket when my backpack hit the seat and are somewhere in my car, or someone else came along and spotted them and picked them up in the five or ten minutes it took me to reach my car, find them gone, and search my way back up. Maybe I'll turn them up under a seat one day, maybe I'll never see them again.

So I drove home counting my blessings -- that the one ring of the three that didn't go missing was my university ring, and that all I've lost are a pair of $10 stainless steel rings that I can probably replace at Hot Topic or that hippie store in the mall. I'm going to take it as a sign that I'm really overdue for getting some more rings instead of just wearing the same three for almost a year now. Timing estimate based on this post, from when I bought the first of those rings in early December last year and decided to get my university ring resized. Doesn't mention what my new size is, and I need to know that if I shop online, which I no doubt will, between eBay and the number of jewelry-selling sites I have bookmarked. (Or I could wear my old rings on my right ring finger, but it's not my preferred location.) Oh, good, my next entry mentions it -- 7.5 on the left index finger, 9 on the right. And the ring I'd been wearing on my thumb lo these many moons was probably a 10.

A couple of NY Times links:

NASA Finds a Moon Oasis, Wetter Than the Sahara -- "The Moon, at least at the bottom of a deep, dark cold crater near its south pole, seems to be wetter than the Sahara, scientists reported Thursday. In lunar terms, that is an oasis, surprisingly wet for a place that had long been thought by many planetary scientists to be utterly dry. If astronauts were to visit this crater, they might be able to use eight wheelbarrows of soil to melt 10 to 13 gallons of water. The water, if purified, could be used for drinking, or broken apart into hydrogen and oxygen for rocket fuel - to get home or travel to Mars."

Dr. Greg and Afghanistan -- "Each month, Mr. Mortenson’s team gets another 50 requests from villages seeking their own schools. And for the cost of a single American soldier stationed in Afghanistan for one year, it’s possible to build 20 schools."

Need to wind up this policy so I can head on out of here.
