TKTHA-Chapter 4

Aug 17, 2009 19:48

The walk to the lake was fairly silent with the only noise being the animals quietly moving about the woods. They reached the lake and found Kazuya’s belongings which Jin insisted on carrying back to the cottage, despite Kame’s persistence that he could carry them himself. The way back started pretty much the same as the way there, but half way back, Akanishi broke the silence. “Why’d you do it?”

“Do what?” Kame feigned ignorance, even though he knew exactly what the older man was talking about.

Jin let out a heavy sigh. “Why did you try to kill yourself?”

Kazuya was quiet for awhile. He contemplated whether he should say something, or if he should just come up with a lie, however, he knew he would probably need to tell the truth to somebody someday.

After a long silence, Jin figured the younger man wouldn’t answer which he was fine with because he knew from experience it was rather hard to talk about these things, especially to people you don’t really know that well. But, eventually he heard the other man mumble under his breath, “Not yet.”

“What?”

“I’ll tell you soon, just not yet.” When Kame looked into the older man’s eyes, Jin could see the great sadness hidden there and wondered if Kamenashi would ever really be able to tell him the truth.

“Okay.” The rest of the walk back was fairly silent, both men lost in their thoughts. They got back to the cottage and Kame unpacked his things while Jin sat at the kitchen table, writing something down.

Once Kame unpacked, he joined Akanishi in the kitchen. “Hey, what do you do for a living?”

“Hmm?” Jin looked up from whatever it was that was attracting all his attention.

“What do you do for a living? I mean do you have a job or what?”

“Oh, I do this.” He gestured towards the paper in front of him causing Kamenashi to come looking over the older man’s shoulder.

“What?”

“I write. I used to work for Lord Domoto, but now I pretty much just live off the money I made from that.”

“Sounds nice. Why did you leave?”

“It was nice. I kind of miss it sometimes now, but I didn’t like the restrictions and the expectations of working in the castle. I like being able to write about anything at anytime, without expectations.”

“Oh, what’s this one about?”

“I don’t know. This just kind of came to me on our walk back and I decided to write it down. It’s nothing now.”

“Can I read it?”

“I don’t know. Like I said, it’s really nothing now. Maybe you can read it when it’s a bit more done.”

“I don’t care. It’s not like I’m really expecting anything.”

“Hey!”

“I mean, I’m sure it will be wonderful once it’s done, but now it’s not finished, so it’s not like I’m going to judge you by it.”

Akanishi looked at the younger man suspiciously before finally relenting. “Fine.”

Kamenashi smiled before he grabbed the sheets of paper and sat down to start reading. It was a simple scene, two people meeting in the woods, but the way he described everything with such beautiful imagery and poetry made the young man realize the talent of the man who was nervously sitting across from him.

“Well…”Jin asked as soon as Kame looked up.

Kame tried to hide his amazement at the piece of work in front of him. “Well…like you said, it’s unfinished, and you won’t get my thoughts until you hand me the finished version.” He cheekily replied. “Well, I think I’m going to go make dinner.” Kamenashi got up and made his way towards the kitchen, but as he passed the older man, he leant down and whispered, “You better finish the rest soon,” and then headed off to start dinner.

As Kamenashi walked away, a large smile began to spread across Jin’s face. The smile remained on Jin’s face all throughout their silent dinner and later as they laid down in bed next to each other to go to sleep. But, Jin couldn’t sleep.

He tried moving around gently, so he didn’t wake the man lying next to him, in bed, but he found no matter what he did, sleep wouldn’t come.  He rolled over to face Kazuya and watched as the younger man slept. He traced the lines of the man’s face with his eyes and just watched the gentle beauty of the figure in front of him. He reached a hand out as to touch the vision in front of him, but his hand stopped short as he stroked the air surrounding Kazuya’s face. Smiling, Jin slowly rose out of bed, grabbed the paper and pen in his nightstand and sat by the window and wrote. He wrote for hours and hours by moonlight until the early morning sun began to peek its way through the window.

When Kazuya woke up the next morning, he found the space next to him empty. He looked up to find Jin asleep by the window with a thick packet of paper in his hands.  He carefully got up and made his way over to the other man to gently remove the papers, trying not to wake him up. Looking through the papers, a smile formed on Kazuya’s face as he found the continuation to the story.

A/N: Sry this update took longer than expected, but bad things happened in my life that made writing difficult, and i don't really think this chapter flows well. Anyways, thanks for reading/commenting!
