More catching up...

So...still catching up on my Anime.  Last time...  http://fuzzyscribble.livejournal.com/392533.html

Second season of Vampire Knight...called "Vampire Knight Guilty" brings the show up there to...very good. I can haz entertainment. I liked the oddball love triangle even though I liked Zero waaaay better than Kaname. But then again I have a thing for angsty boys. Like Harry Potter...the loveable school setting eventually turns into a bizarre war against the badness sort of thing. Oh...the headmaster...I LOVE his character. But am still wondering about the whole knit shawl thing.

Also watched Claymore.  This is not normally what I'd consider "my type" of anime.  It's violent.  But (thank you baby jeebus) there's no sex in it.  I can deal with one or the other but not both.  But...bad ass monster hunting women...who kick butt for humanity...along with well written sub-plot...equals enough for me to watch the entire season.  I give it a B just because I think the name is silly...because the fantasy setting looked nothing like 16th century Scotland.  I watched the English dub.  I'm thinking I might get more out of the Japanese voice acting and subtitles.

Started watching Darker than Black.  I can kind of tell it was developed as a bit of a "franchise anime."  But after three episodes I like the feel well enough that I'll probably watch on.  Hei/Li has the same sort of squickyness that Light's character does in "Death Note."  I WANT to like him...he's likeable...but damn...it's that killing people stuff I just can't get along with.

Watched first couple of episodes of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.  OK.  I'm still not getting the need for existentialism in my kooky school girl anime.  I don't like Haruhi's character.  (The voice actress is uber-obnoxious...just that grating kind of female anime voice that makes me hope she gets killed off in the third episode.  Thing is...it's plotless.  I don't MIND completely plotless anime.  But the plotlessness and the whole existential time travel thing...it no work for me.

I finished watching Air TV.  Lucky for me it was on Netflix's watch instantly.  Honestly...I liked it.  And it IS existential and plotless.  And subtle.  VERY subtle.  If you're not going to sit and apply a bit of thought to the characters and their motivation...yeah...you're going to be unhappy.  But I don't get why this has become Anime Night's redheaded stepchild.  It's a very subtle plot.  It's actually the same story of devotion and loss told FOUR different ways.  If you look hard enough...it's told FIVE ways.  If you're not looking at it as a clever sort of mood piece...it's going to not make sense.
