So - I'm sorta sick and stayed "home" today, vegging in my new and dear Oxford sweatshirt, huge socks, and sweat pants. Haha - and it's 4:39:54 here as the clocky thing is reminding me and it's time for an update.
Wow, so this trip has been really great so far - except for the fact I can't contact anyone... which is like the ultimate bummer. I've done alot of great stuff that I wish you guys could have done with me!!! We need like a band and guard trip to London. haha - next year. lol
Hokay... so one of the ultimate highlights of my trip that I know everyone will enjoy!
1. Definitely my favorite thing ever was the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace! They only do it on "odd" days (silly British) so as yesterday, Thursday, was the 23rd, it was an odd day indeed!
It was really cool and super authentically royalish. They had mounties who were shouting at people to 'move along' and they also stopped traffic to usher important carriages by (diplomats and such going to have high tea with her highness, Queen Elizabeth...)before the ceremony started.
Okay, now I truly mean this when I say - you know how much Band is your life when the first thing you notice about the entire palace is that the guards not only had real rifles, but had sweet CORNETS hanging from royally tassles from their belts!!! I was in love.
It got better. I swore I heard music so I was wnadering around like an idiot American tourist with my camera, searching for the start of the procession. About twenty minutes later, the first royal band started the royal parade into the palace gates.
Now I was like flipping out (I got alll of this on video - which totally ate my camera's memory space but i dont give a shit lol). The first marching people were a whole brigand (like 12) flute and piccolo players, along with royal drummers!!!!!
They marched into the gate playing happy flute royal music. I loved it omg.
Then, the mother load came and I like died.
So, anyone want to be part of the Queen's royal Marching band?????!!!! I do. They were amazing! And all guys. and some of them were hot (but some of them were older ewww....)
Anyway, it was obvious they were coming because I heard the bass and trombones first, so I went close to the road and atarted filming.
The first thing I noticed about them, besides for their ridiculous high step style marching and the cool royal march music, was their uniforms.
Okay, so you know the Wicked witch of the Wizard of Oz? (Duh) Picture her minion people with the incredibly large fuzzy hats that were like a foot tall and the funny boots and uniforms. Now picture them with insturments and a marching style that was purely pomp and circumstance and wanted to make you double over laughing (or crying). Now picture them with amazingly good tone, about 40 of them - really loud - trombones in the front row, then piccolo trumpets, follwed by normal euphoniums and slighlty smaller tubas, then normal horns and saxes, a couple clarinets, a huge ass bass drum, and lastly - two snare drummers with a piccolo player - then bringing up the rear, an overly enthusiatic symbol player.
Got all that? Yay! Cause that was the band!!! And they were sweet!
And not to forget the guard - cause they were awesome too.
The royal guards had the same type of gray pomp/royal uniforms but had militaristic shakos no feathers:(, had real and sort of scary rifles, the leader had a reallllllyyy shiny saber (and was hot), and they were all guys.
Hokay, anyway, they all marched and played into the gate, where they halted for like 25 minutes and stood at attention - which really must suck cause it was cold and their hats looked really heavy/fuzzy. lol
Then the guard (as it was the changing of the guard) did their own thing with the rifles, and were given commands to halt again.
The band then, it was like flipping amazzzzzzzzzing, went to get stands and set up an arch and started playing popular tunes. They played Indiana Jones, Star Wars, the Olympics theme, and I swear it was like Liberty Fanfare... hmmm -
Dude, the whole band was incredible! The brass was so amazing and so were the piccolos/flutes. Ugh... *shudder* and the piccolo trumpets were uhhh good.
I got alot of it on vid - you guys will love it. Heehee, I think it can be a bribe for Mr. WHite to take us. I want one of those hats! lol
I'm gonna go - I sorta feel icky. I love you all and miss you (and marching season...) a lot!!! See ya soon!
Always,
Lauren
