Sorry DD: I suck.
I don't know why I EVER thought I'd have more free time once I finished my A-levels. But then Cambridge terms are really short (6 months in total!) so they have to pack in a LOT of work.
Anyways, I'm having a lot of fun here :DD and I'm always busy with work or social stuff. I seem to go out for a meal in the town every single day... I really need to cut down on that or I'll have no money left D: And I have BIG NEWS but that'll have to wait until Christmas XDD
If anyone is interested in my actual course my lessons LECTURES are Grammar, Language (which are basically the same thing with different professors), Modern Texts and Japanese History, which are compulsary, and then my options are Classical Japanese and Sociology Modern Japanese Society.
They're all kinda fun although Grammar is scary because the professor goes a mile a minute and glares at you if you can't do something D: She is nice though, just expects a lot from us. Also because there's only 9 of us in the entire university doing Japanese in my year, all lessons are really interactive. Good but frightening.
And Classical Japanese - why did I decide to do this to myself!? Translating anything requires 3 separate dictionaries - count 'em - and takes hours. Literally. My first time translating on my own, it took me four hours of solid work to do a single page. And the professor sits there while you're reading or translating it out loud in class and laughs at how crap we are. But here's an example:
門を吹きはなちて四五町がほかに置き、また、垣を吹きはらひて隣と一つになせり。いはむや、家のうちの資財、数をつくして空にあり、檜はだ葺板のたぐひ、冬の木の葉の風に乱るるが如し。
(and this would be one of the simpler passages...)
Even when accurately translated most of it still makes no sense! I even had to leave out some of the weirder kanji because my computer can't even write them... Anyways, if you can read that you're a better man than I am Gunga Din.
(And if you can read it, I need help on a few words...)
Anyways, there's an LGBT swap in a couple of days time where basically we gay Selwyn-types descend on another college for a gay formal. I'm thinking yay XDD The LGBT-ers are the greatest. Plus the best thing is that in Selwyn there is one person doing Japanese in each year, and currently we're all gay (or in Sven's case, undecided...) XDDD How about the odds on that? There's just something about Japanese...
I now need to go finish writing up the translation of my Classical (>______<);
