Ok, just got back from Portugal last night. Will update regarding that when have pictures, but for now:
HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE
Only got the chance to start reading it yesterday night when I got back, finished it this morning.
What the fuck happened? Seriously?!? There are so many things I'm annoyed about I cold rant for half a year, but whatever. Here's my thoughts in an easy-to-digest list:
1. Lupin and Tonks. No no no no no. In a word. As a Sirius/Remus shipper, I was practicaly screaming when that whole bit came up. I mean, seriously, it doesn't work. There were no hints of it I could see in HP5, so what the hell?
2. No Sirius/Remus make-out memory scene. ... Just see above... >:3
3. Dumbledore's Death. Saw that coming, although not by Snape. Knew he had to die before 7th book though, or it would detract from The Final Battle.
4. The Half-Blood Prince / Snape. Again, never saw the HBP as Snape. Liked that twist, although I still don't get how Dumbledore would trust Snape, really, the reason she gave seemed pretty weak. Wasn't wholly satisfied with that.
5. Malfoy. Nice to see a bit more of Malfoy's character, enjoyed the crying scene.
6. Harry/Ginny. Didn't really see that coming, as Harry has shown absolutely no romantic interest in Ginny up til this point. It just seemed a very random, sudden development that all of a sudden Harry is in love with her. Whatever...
7. Ron/Hermione & Ron/Lavender. I liked this more than the whole Harry/Ginny thing, but then after Sirius/Remus (I can't believe it's no longer canon!! T^T ) Ron/Hermione is my favourite HP pairing. The whole Ron/Lavender thing was quite good in getting the whole jealousy thing going, bit pissed off that although Ron and Hermione were obviously together at the end, there was nothing solid.
8. General Book Structure. The plot in this one seemed a lot less tightly knit than the others, it kinda wandered all over the place. Wasn't that impressed, I preferred the structure of the earlier books. Everything seemed a bit random, and particularly with the whole relationships issue, I sort of felt like I'd missed a book or something, that there had been an HP5.5 I'd been off sick for or something.
9. Harry Potter 7. This whole R.A.B. thing, she's never ended a book with a real mystery before... Guess she wants us to think about it or something... Also, the structure of the next book looks even more unfocused than that of this book - what with the HP crew not being at Hogwarts any more and shit.
Overall, I wasn't that impressed... Not to say it didn't have funny moments as always, but still... I even prefer the fifth book...
Wonder what 7th will be like... Guess we've got to wait and see...
