Dyed my hair black last night with proved to be a huge success! I used beauteen hair dye (which has the ai yazawa characters on the box!) and the black came out very rich and deep, and my hair remained soft. The applicator instead of just being a funnel at the end was like a comb that you "combed" the dye through your hair with to execute maximum coverage.. overall very easy and nice, it seemed to help a bit in social situations as well (having black hair) and I was allowed in certain restaurants without a second glance (sometimes they seem to "not have seating" etc when they obviously do...). I walked a good while this morning to find an ATM to withdraw 10000¥ (the smallest withdraw-able amount) so that I could eat, and afford my train ticket to the airport, hopefully i'll have some left I can transfer to American currency and use it back home for bills! The ATM was about 1.5 miles away but the morning walk was enjoyable and on the way back I managed to find banana kit kats and green tea sakura kit kat so experimentation will ensue once I return home!
After returning to my hotel area I ordered an iced coffee and read more of "Skeleton Crew" before Kyle came (I was in the middle of the mist, such a good short story!! the movie wasn't too bad either..) and we went to Ueno both very hungry. I told Kyle I wanted some Japanese ka-ri (curry lol) so he took me to coco's curry which was EXCELLENT. I got the vegetable curry with #5 spicyness (It ranges from 1 not hot to 10 which Kyle ordered once and said was a HUGE mistake). The 5 was good but proved to be a bit spicy, even for ME but it was still really yummy so I gladly ate it. Kyle decided he was short on money so ordered some McDonalds (cheap and with a unique selection we don't have over seas). We went to his apartment and watched some Japanese tv while we ate (we both got our stuff to go) and talked for a bit while drinking calpis..delicious, delicious calpis. After lunch we decided to begin walking to the bar we planned on spending our evening at (it was about 45 mins away) we could have taken a train but we wanted to walk off some of our lunch and why spend the money when we had time to burn anyway?
The bar was called the Hub and had a nice, homey feel and after our long walk it felt good to sit down. Happy hour started at 4 so we got there just in time and began to order drinks. In japan beer is very expensive (a Budweiser is 650¥ a bottle lol!) while mixed drinks are surprisingly cheap, especially since you get a nice, tall glass (like a pint glass). We ordered a few 190¥ cocktails such as "Moscow Mule" and "American Lemonade" and drank and talked for a few hours. The waitress was a cute girl with a few ear piercings so I chatted her up about how easy it was to get pierced in my hometown since she said it was hard where she lived (Tokyo is progressive but still.. very conservative sadly). Kyle and I danced a bit in our chairs to the music in a mocking way ("I'm in love with a stripper" came on several times... the Japanese love the terrible hip hop of the USA.. why can't they play the GOOD hip hop? although they did play some Lady Gaga <3). After a few hours of laughing and drinking we decided to start our walk to the station, talking the whole way although it had gotten a bit chilly it was still enjoyable. I rode the train home and here I am at the computer. I ate sooo much I lunch I'm still not even hungry, so no soba for me today (that was a lot of curry <3) and my feet are a bit tired from all the walking but I'm sure in the morning I will be plenty hungry so I'll be ready for it.
Today was fun, not too eventful but I have found I enjoy the simple things such as walking through the streets of Tokyo and taking in the small aesthetic things as well as the experience. I'm sorry for the short post but I don't want to drag on if I don't need to lol and I'm a bit tipsy and tired.. Y'all have a good time back home! (p.s I'm not really drunk like my mood says.. they just don't offer tipsy! lol)
Love,
Amanda <3
