Everything was settled, the latest big adventure was over, they'd all been space-knighted (or space-damed), and they had just piled back into the TARDIS for a few hours of relaxation when Amy leaned against the console, clapped her hands, and said, "Okay, we're going to have a conversation."

"A good conversation?" Rory asked, because sometimes Amy's conversations could get a bit intense and he'd never quite forgotten the time when she'd forced him to talk about Girl Stuff at age twelve. It had lasted for almost an hour, and at the end of it she'd nodded, kissed him, and run away. So it hadn't turned out that badly, really, but the running-away had been a bit worrying.

"A conversation between mature adults," Amy said firmly.

The Doctor raised his hand. "You know, in Time Lord years I'm actually--"

"Sit down," Amy said, and he did. So did Rory, who didn't really need to be told to.

"Right," Amy said, walking over to them. "Rory, you know that I love you."

"Er, yes," Rory said. "You did marry me. We're married." Part of him was very nervous, and another part was saying that was stupid, he was over this. Wasn't he?

Amy turned to the Doctor. "And you don't like to think about it but you know I love you, too."

The Doctor looked rather as if he wanted to run away. That first part of Rory turned smug, until the other part slapped it and said to let her finish first.

"And neither of those things is going to change any time soon," Amy said. "So. We have to work something out. I've developed a Plan."

"Does the plan involve not talking about it?" the Doctor asked. "Because I'm quite good at not talking about things. It's a specialty, really."

Amy ignored him. "The first step of the plan," she said, "is you two. You need to spend more time together. Without me."

Now the other part of Rory was looking smug, because that didn't seem so bad, did it? Just spending time with the man your wife was in love with. Other man. The other man.

"Now I'm going to go wash up," Amy said. "And then I'll be in the library for a few hours. And you two are going to get to know each other better. We're a team, not two teams that happen to have the same person in them. Got it?"

"It's not much of a conversation if only one person is talking," the Doctor pointed out. Amy glared at him. He shut up.
