I am watching the Golden Globes because...it's on, or something? Anyway, I have seen, like, five of any of the things that have been nominated, so it's mostly an exercise of me going either "I have no idea how good any of these things are, so I will root for them based entirely on if I like their names or not" or "I am familiar with exactly one of ( Read more... )

Happy-go-Lucky is Mike Leigh's new film. I got a trailer for it when I was in America actually, and it is full of SALT OF THE EARTH English accents and I was cringing all over the place. Although apparently it is good, IDK.

Gerard Butler introducing a clip from In Bruges. I quite want to see this, actually. I think my Dramatic Writing professor said he was going to show us, wooooo!

Apart from Iron Man and HSM3, which are givens, In Bruges was my favourite film I saw in the cinema last year. And then I bought it on DVD and it got better every time I watched it. Seriously oh my god I love it so much. If your professor doesn't show it to you, please seek it out on your own steam! It deserves to be winning far more awards than it actually is )8

I have actually been wanting to see In Bruges since I first saw a review for it in the paper--which was definitely more than a year ago, so I am a little confused as to why it is only making the awards lists now. Mysterious! But yes, if my professor decides not to show it after all, I certainly shall go after it.

I to have seen very few films this year, but I live vicariously through Mark Kermode's film reviews, he is like the Jeremy Clarkson of films! He says Slumdog is good so it probably deserves all the gongs. Also it has that guy from Skins in it....

Sounds pretty average, though Tina Fey/30 Rock winning awards always makes me smile. So well deserved. :D

It's just a pity these awards still don't feel the Dexter love.

Put me down for: One of the only other people in the world who loves A.I.
I cry every time.

Happy-Go-Lucky. Mike Leigh. I wish I could convey to you how much I love every single movie Mike Leigh has made. He's British. He's a genius. He gets a bunch of actors he likes together and they workshop for sixish months and he writes a script from what they've improvised. He's...brilliant.
Watch Naked (It has David Thewlis!), and Topsy-Turvy (It has Andy Serkis and Jim Broadbent and is about Gilbert and Sullivan!), and Career Girls (It is beautiful!) and Secrets and Lies...and pretty much everything he's ever done.
