hi LJ.

wow lots going on.

the bad --

I have a torn disc in my back. the torn section is lying on top of a nerve. i am, and have been, in constant, excrutiating pain. or at best, intense discomfort. either that, or I'm on drugs. sometimes they work, and I can function "normally". other times, like last night, they don't, and the expression "living hell" finally has real meaning to me. it's been quite an experience.

i will most likely be getting surgery. i'm 31 years old. back surgery? yeah. fucked up. but if it makes the pain go away, and allows me to stop taking narcotics all day...then I'm all for it. my consultation with kaiser nuerosugery (yeah...spine related, so...) is on friday. hopefully the surgery will be the following week (I wish it was sooner...). This may fuck over halloween for me. sad.

it's been hard to focus on...everything...due to the pain/drugs combo. which is unfortunate, because i have a lot to focus on right now! which brings us to

the good --

i've been signed. that is to say, my personal industrial music project, named DEAD WHEN I FOUND HER, has been signed to ArtOfFact Records. My debut album is mostly done; I'm doing some final mixing / tweaking in the coming weeks, but I've finished all the songs. Needless to say, this is damned exciting. The label is hoping for a first quarter 2010 release. I plan on arranging a release party here in PDX to coincide with one of the lovely goth-industrial nights around town. The album will be released both physically and digitally, the latter available from the usual sources, e.g. iTunes, Amazon.com, and the artoffact website.

Meanwhile, you can listen to dead when i found her at www.soundcloud.com/deadwhenifoundher

School is up and running again. I'm having some trouble getting my head back into it, but I'm not too worried. Only taking 2 classes after an original plan to do 3 this term, but with the label deal and Widow's Walk Lake to score, and the fact that I still work 3 days a week, I feel much better with the lighter school load.

More (musical) things --

-really enjoying the new Flaming Lips album. like, really really. from start to finish it creates a weird world and I like being there. and yeah, it certainly sounds a lot like the 2nd side of many old PInk Floyd records (ummagumma, saucerful of secrets, obscured by clouds...that sort of stuff). but then you've got the deliberately hyper-compressed/distorted syncopated drums (sooo good to hear those again on a lips record).  this band is amazing. the new album makes me also go back and dig into older lips stuff. and who's with me that Clouds Taste Metallic has got to be one of the three greatest albums of all time (and certainly also one of the most overlooked/under-rated...)

-really psyched about the upcoming Skinny Puppy show on Nov. 2nd

The Rest --

-spending money recklessly
-being in love
-needing a real bed instead of a futon (going mattress shopping soooon)
-so happy in NE pdx, our newish house = total win, though i'm god awful at keeping it clean
-lazy and spoiled as ever though maybe slightly less cognizant of it recently due to insane near constant pain

and

-as ever, always feeling compelled to push towards the next thing, anywhere everywhere, even when i don't need to.
