Okay...
So, I know I ranted about national pride today. Yes...national pride. But I can't deny the fact that I get a little irritated when people
can't tell a British accent from an Australian one. Being Australian, I get a good kick out of it when I put on my accent and have people tell me that I'm being very British...har har, very funny, gaiz.
No, but that's not what's the matter. What's the matter is Vanille. Yes, Final Fantasy XIII's Vanille. I was at the mall today with my friend Emily who mentioned that Vanille had a horrible Australian accent. Okay, so I do believe her, because she's pretty knowledgeable about accents and games, and I laughed it off at first, but curiosity got the better of me and so I went home, got on the computer, and started looking up Vanille related cutscenes. Hmm. Interesting.

Okay, so first off, I'm not fond of the high pitched squealy voice, but secondly...what in hell is up with that accent? Okay, yes...I don't like it at all. It's this random mix of Australian and American and I can pick out exactly where she slips into her American accent.
It's not so much the voice actresses fault because she used to live in Melbourne (hometown, whoo!), but moved to America in 2005, so she, justifiably, lost a little bit of her accent, but good for her for retaining so much, because I lost all of my casual-speaking accent and can only use it for theatrics. What the real problem is is Square Enix completely sucking at dubbing and once again picking people who really weren't that cut out for the job...
Lol, way to go, Square Enix...I hope you're happy after that display of failure...OTL
