Dude, forget the angst! Epic games from ZE PAST!

Anyway, my sister and I have been reminiscing on the epically old games we used to play as children. And no, I do not mean 'Barbie the Video Game'!!! D< Oh, man...it makes me remember the good old days, when the game industry didn't suck like a bitch and actually made RPGs that people could get into! When games and their respective systems were affordable, perhaps? I mean, let's face it...when Nintendo comes out with a hand-held console that costs about as much as it's home console, SOMETHING HAS GONE COMPLETELY WRONG. And who in fuck told Sony they could spit out an 800 dollar console and expect sane people to buy it?! (No offense to those that actually spent the cash on that...errr..yeah...). It's good that it's so much cheaper now~ -Is able to afford, yush!-

Anyway!!!

So, yes...in all likelihood, almost no one has heard of this game even though it got re-released in America on the PSP. It really wasn't advertised and, in all honesty, I probably wouldn't have found this thing if Sony hadn't sent me a Demo CD with the 'upcoming releases'. I was six when I got this Demo CD and I believe that this game was released in America in 2001...

The whole concept of this game is sort of like the 'Original Guitar Hero' except the songs tend to be way more speedy and play more like DDR than an actual guitar. Haha, I know I fought my first boss battle when I was six and scored a B rank, but seriously, this game has some pretty bad ass controls which are decently hard to get a hang of. The higher levels have ridiculously hard finger combinations so, yes...

Unfortunately, this game was an underground sort of thing. Although it was pretty popular in Japan, it didn't get released in great numbers in America and so not too many know about it which is a shame! I'm really thinking about buying the PSP version because they're exactly the same. Haha, voice acting is pretty terrible, but I think it adds to the overall cutesy feel. I love the main character U-1, he's adorable! ;A;

And now the pride of my childhood! I love this game.

SO MUCH THAT I HAVE TO CAPS LOCK THIS SHIZ AND PUT TWO COVER PICTURES!
Not too many 'hardcore' gamers can appreciate the simple awesome this game has. I'm actually kind of irritated about the rating some of the game review sites gave this piece of awesome. I admit, this game lacks the most advanced graphics, captivating music, outlandish plot, and ridiculously overpowered characters (*cough* *cough* Final Fantasy *cough* *cough*), but, believe me, Tamsoft creators had genius behind what appears to be complete insanity.

Although the game has a very generic plotline (bring the hopping, pink hippo to the Tower of God and return it to its mother to save the world! --how this baby saves the world, I have no idea...--) and characters that lack some three-dimensionality, the humble story paired with spot-on chaacterization makes this a surprisingly endearing game. Not only that, the music, which isn't memorable out of game, is perfect for caring the story and its emotions. Think of it as more of 'ambient' music rather than soundtrack material. But that's the wonderful thing about this game, the emotions players feel are genuine, not emotions that have to be dragged out of the player via scores of music overly-charged with 'faux' emotion.

The fact that, after a good 11 years, I'm still remembering this game and am still moved to help Baby (the pink hippo-bunny looking thing) should say enough about the secret power this game has over its players. This games best quality is its cute factor which is beyond all scale. Sorry, Nintendogs doesn't even compare...I'd go as far as saying that not even Kirby can be this cute.

Anyway, epic opening theme is epic. And when you see Knight crying, that whole mess refers to the final battle which is just too sad it made me cry. ;A;

Seriously, this game is awesome. Too much awesome to put into words! It's cheap and definitely worth the play through. Though it doesn't take too much time (25 hrs, appx.), this one really holds you for years to come. It really will make you feel guilty if you don't help Baby. That thing has powers and it is SCARY!!!

And so my sister and I...convinced that we have to play this game again and relive our wonderful, fantasy childhood...are going to buy Guardian's Crusade...(which is only about 10 dollars~). Oh ho ho~

memories, slice of life, games
