Went to Jakarta on long weekend. Those four days are generally filled with mallhopping with my brother and my friends since highschool. One of them recently got a deal to publish her novel. Coupled with my brother's job as an editor, topic of our hangout conversation nowadays seem to always be literary.
That group of friends are twelve when complete, but only five of us last week. Three work overseas, two work in a different city (I'm actually one of those out-of-city people), one was out of town for the weekend and the other one couldn't go because her father's sick. There are no group of friends that I'd rather keep for life than this one. We dreamed together, worked together, enjoyed a lot of same things (and a lot of different things). Only one remains closest to our dream as a comics studio though; she's a freelance illustrator and does comics for public outreach projects with government bodies & NGOs.
The thing that I most love about them is how we can all freely be ourselves with each other. Me, for instance, I keep my tongue pretty much on a leash with people I don't know well because I can be quite a critic. Like when some of my friends thought I didn't like Andrea Hirata's Laskar Pelangi because I criticise its overuse of plants' Latin names. Dude, I can like something and acknowledge its imperfections. >.<
Dad also showed us our (their? am I still counted?*) new house's location. It's further from the city than our current house (which is already in the suburbs), so he managed to get a larger land with lower price. There's a creek in front of it, and grassy land across the creek. It sure looks like the morning air there would be fresh with not much pollution. Though it is Tangerang so who knows, with factories probably not too far away.
*When do your parents' house stop being your house?
My brother gave me the complete fansub for Code Geass season 1 and I finished it in 2 days. It continues to strengthen my lovehate relationship with CLAMP. I don't normally like mecha series (I think Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and the entire Gundam series are boring), but this one keeps me attached. Who knows how much ideas Nanase Ageha Ohkawa gave the director (or if the director CLAMPish in the first place?). I don't exactly know whether I love or hate (for breaking my heart omg) the series, all I know is that I'm looking forward to the 2nd season next month, and glad I'm spared the months of waiting that the fans who followed it since last year had to endure.
