The Welsh Countryside, Turn of the Century, Mid-day

Jun 25, 2010 17:50

With an unceremonious regurgitation, the portal spewed out our intrepid band of travelers (and the chair) onto a soft patch of grass in Welsh farmland.

Mina herself landed with the chair on top of her.

"I really do think they do this on purpose," she comment, momentarily not making the effort to get up.

Nathan
Nathan was pulling himself to his feet, now. Pulling himself to his feet and making a mental note to find whoever it was at Portalocity that kept doing these things so that he could personally throttle them.

Repeatedly.

.... And yes, picking the chair off of Mina was the next thing he was doing, of course.

"I don't mind being dragged along so much," he said, only lying a little bit, "but did they really have to kidnap Angua's dog, as well?"

The dog that looked remarkably wolflike. Probably a crossbreed of some sort, he supposed.

Mina
"Well if we encounter any elevators, it will know what to do," Mina said, very droll.

"I suppose Allan won't mind a hound about. Rodney's reaction will be fare more intriguing."

Angua
Angua's dog would have been looking more reproachful if it weren't for the horrible things that whole experience was doing to her nose. It was like Henry de Tamble walked right up her nostril and exploded. The first instinct after they'd been transported was to get on her paws and shake herself out, but shaking herself out turned into a very unpleasant series of sneezes, and a very unfortunate whimper of distrust for the whole situation.

And she hadn't even realized what had happened yet, was the beauty of the thing.

Nathan
"Yes, well, I imagine Rodney will be making inappropriate jokes in no time," Nathan noted, shoving the chair aside and then giving a look around.

No, he still didn't much care for Rodney.

"Now that she's here, I suppose she's our responsibility, as well," he added, turning to face the poor creature. "I'm not going to be the one who goes back to Fandom to tell Angua that her pet was accidentally dognapped and then vaporized by alien tripods."

Okay, so the tripods were gone. Still.

He crouched a little and held his hand toward 'Elsie.'

Mina
"Knowing Angua, she'd assume that I did it on purpose as part of some angry dog-hating agenda," Mina said, picking herself up.

Nathan
That statement earned a curious glance from Nathan, who kept his hand outstretched for the canine quite patiently.

"Not the closest of friends, are you?" That made a certain sort of sense, really. He remembered the way that Angua had spoken about vampires. All the same, it always seemed like a slightly jarring change of gears, from the Angua with whom he had pleasant conversations, on into the Angua whose lip had curled when the subject of vampires had come up. "All the same, the wonder dog here didn't ask for this sudden vacation."

Mina
"I shall tend to it quite readily," Mina said. "I hold no qualm against the good Sergeant, and especially not her dog. She is a fine woman." She remained stoic, despite the slight tinge of embarrassment in her heart. "Just very strong in her own beliefs."

She folded her arms across her chest. "I suppose we ought to get our bearings."

Angua
A hand was being offered, and Angua's nose was settling down and acclamating to the sudden relocation just a little bit better. She chuffed a slight sneeze, as if to dispell the last of that, and padded over to sniff it. Some things just couldn't be refused and offered hands always fit the bill.

She recognized it immediately, of course, and unsurprisingly, because there was Mina's scent, too, even if the scent of the vampire laden lobby had (thankfully) disappeared. And then she picked up on the traces of conversation, putting one and portal together, and sniffing Algren's hand ceased to be an issue as she was giving Mina the best brow-lifted inquisitive look of what the hell just happened to us? that a canine face could muster.*

____
*Which could be pretty expressive, unless that canine was a border collie.

Mina
"You know, it's almost as if it understands us," Mina said, shaking her head. "But I think now that we need to walk North until we see a landmark. I do hope your shoes are appropriate for hiking, sir."

Nathan
"Any dog that knows how to operate an elevator can probably comprehend her share of spoken commands," Nathan reasoned, trying a little smile on for size.

It was a tense one. He didn't trust Mina's reality. At all.

"And I wear military-issue footwear, Wilhelmina. From an era where soldiers really did have to march from one point to another. It's possibly some of the most hiking-appropriate footwear on Fandom Island."

It really helped that he'd been breaking it in for a while, now.

Mina
"Then come, girl," Mina said, clapping at the dog. "I do hope she understands that command, at least." She pointed off towards the north, based on the position of the sun. "This way, I believe."

Angua
Almost as if it understands. Come, girl. Angua let out a bark of distaste, thinking about fun this was going to be and wishing she was more familiar with portals so she could just sniff one out herself and go home. But at least it wasn't so bad; there was at least one other intelligent creature with her, in, apparently, military-issue footwear.

Angua started along, nose to the ground to better familiarize herself with what sort of terrain and creatures they were dealing with while they were here.

[ooc: Again preplayed with the friggin awesome shiroi_tiger and colorfulscents. NFI, NFB, OOC very welcome. More to come!]
