Mina knew she was tempting fate, getting her portal in the Mauvaise Chance lobby, but that seemed the most apt place to do it. She had invited Nathan over to bid her adieu, as she did always like to see him before she embarked on anything dangerous.
For now, she sat in the lobby, poking idly at the arm of the chair.
Nathan
Nathan really did know better than to protest when he learned about Mina heading back to England once again. After the last time, with the Tripods, he'd developed a healthy sense of trepidation when it came to her version of the place, but he also understood that heading back was more than simply her job. It was her duty.
"I don't suppose it's too late to convince you to bring a small army with you, this time?"
... Okay, so Minsc had counted as something of a small army all on his own, the last time around. But still.
Mina
"It's Wales, Nathan," Mina said with a light chuckle. "What possible evil could lurk in Wales?"
Nathan
"What possible evil could possibly lurk on a small island off the East Coast of the United States? You're dealing with people, you know. People are people no matter where they are."
He was perhaps a touch jaded re: the anthrax hybrid, too, yes.
Mina
"Oh, Nathan," Mina said. "I shall have the accompaniment of Mr. Quatermaine and Mr. Skinner, so you needn't worry too much. If anyone will simply not tolerate any awfulness it is Allan."
Nathan
"Mmm." Did Nathan look convinced? even remotely?
Not quite, no. But he was going to spare the comments for now, at least.
"Is there anything I can get you before you go, at least?"
Mina
"I would only ask for your well wishes," Mina said. "As I hardly think I need anything but." She smiled at him. "And perhaps a welcoming embrace for my return."
Nathan
"I'll definitely have one of those ready by then," Nathan promised, smiling just slightly. There wasn't anything that was going to make him feel less uneasy about this, but there wasn't really much to be done about it, either.
Mina
"What possible harm could a vampire, a skilled hunter and explorer, and an invisible man come to?" Mina said, conveniently blocking the memory of the ill fate that fell Mr. Hyde. "You worry too much, good sir."
Given Mina's thoughts he didn't worry enough about being involved with her, this was just a tad ironic.
Angua
Angua thought, for the most part, that she had the timing of these little excursions of hers down to a science. Angua would be wrong. It wasn't the first time she, in wolf form, had been surprised to discover when she slipped into the lobby of the apartment building, that it wasn't empty. She would, when human again, blame this on her wolfish brain's lack of proper foresight.
Foresight wasn't currently an issue, though, as Angua paused where she was, still out of relative sight, especially for individuals currently preoccupied with something else. The vampire, of course, making her lip curl into a snarl, and Algren, too, and she probably could have just headed to the elevator, a frequent trick on the part of Elsie the Wonderdog, but their conversation made her pause a moment, ears lifting to listen.
And thought with a bitter chuff that the only thing missing from that list was a werewolf.
As soon as the thought it, it chased an unpleasant chill along her spine from skull to tail, of course.
Nathan
"Honestly, Wilhelmina, would you like me to write a list for--" It was the chuff that caught Nathan's attention, and he glanced over his shoulder looking for that relatively hidden source of the noise. Raised an eyebrow. And then looked back at Mina. "Or perhaps I'm just paranoid. And, apparently, hearing things," he allowed.
Entirely a possibility, really.
Mina
Mina peered over, and shook her head. "No, not hearing things. The illustrious Sergeant Angua's wonder-dog is over there," Mina said. "She has the ability to use the bloody elevator of all things."
Way to stay on topic, Mina.
Angua
Leave it to a vampire to call her out. Still, it wasn't as if Mina didn't say anything that Angua couldn't now use, so she chose that moment to carefully step out from her hiding spot, give herself a good shake, and stride with all the pride of a prize canine to do just that. Use the elevator and leave it there.
Mina
Of course, it would have all been much more impressive if Portalocity didn't again seem to have a problem with booking to Mina's world, and the portal opened up right on top of the three gathered people. The portal sucked them (and the chair Mina was sitting in) right away, no chance of escape.
Well, Nathan had wanted Mina to have a small army with her...
