Enbrel Update

Oct 29, 2007 20:43

Rob and I paid $998 to pick up my Enbrel last week. That's the normal amount (actually lower than normal) that I can expect to pay for Enbrel after falling in to the "coverage gap" in prescription drug insurance, which will happen after $2,500 next year (which is slightly less than 2 months' worth of Enbrel). To get out of the coverage gap, I have to spend $3850; after which point, I am then covered by "catastrophic" insurance, which has no maximum. This means that for 3+ months out of every year, unless things change with Medicare, we can expect to pay for my Enbrel out of pocket. Enbrel at full price is $1500.

But I have good news. There's a non-profit organization that looks like it'll help me get through the coverage gap. It's called Patient Access Network: "The Patient Access Network Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting the needs of patients that cannot access the treatments they need due to out-of-pocket health care costs."

So... I want to encourage those of you that can to support this NPO. It's an invaluable resource for patients with RA and Medicare. My application is going to be sent in tomorrow, but it looks like I'll qualify for $4000 worth of help to get me through the coverage gap. I was so, so relieved to get this news today.
