I had a realization over the weekend: that I'll never be able to exercise enough or regularly enough to lose more than 2-3 pounds, so if I want to lose 10, I need to eat less than I've been eating. The way I'm going about this is to only eat when I'm hungry. And the way I'm going about that is to practice mindfulness while eating. And the way I'm going about that is to take a deep breath before putting the food in my mouth. So far, it does seem to be working. I'm eating significantly less at dinner. And it's having some unforeseen positive effects, too: my morning-IBS-"glass is EXPLODING in my intestines" symptoms have disappeared. That by itself is motivation to continue with this; it's nice not waking up to that sensation. I am still trying to exercise with the "frequency instead of duration" approach, too, so I'm hoping I may lose 10 pounds by Christmas. That seems like a reasonable goal.
In other news, Rob turned 30 on Sunday. I'd been planning a surprise party for him on Saturday, which was a complete success. Everyone had fun, and Rob was happy.
daviticus even flew down from Massachusetts for it, which was awesome and allowed me to actually have a surprise for Rob: as a Quaker and a Buddhist, let's just say I'm not good at lying when asked direct questions (I made a lot of references to Rob's "alleged party that may or may not happen on Saturday" last week). Rob,
daviticus, and
wigginx beat Scott Pilgrim: The Videogame in 8 hours (
wigginx was awesome enough to drive
daviticus to and from the airport and brought beer for the party);
thstlenshmrock came over with pizza and cake; and another friend of Rob's got him Halo: Reach. We also had a cutthroat Munchkin game that ended around 1AM.
Oh, and Cinnamon was the star of the party, letting everyone--even complete strangers--pet her and hanging out with us in the main room all night. Quite an accomplishment for a kitty who used to be so skittish!
So, it was a great weekend overall.
