Pride
I went to my first "Take Back the Night" event tonight. My team volunteers at the YWCA on Tuesdays with an employee, Dave, that is a CYNH alum. Last year for TBTN, they had some Heroes come out, so Dave invited our Devoted Heroes (high school students) and our 8th grade Heroes. Overall, I think we had about 12 come.
Amazing. Our kids spoke at the open mic, went up with each other, hugged each other, cried on each others shoulders. I wish I could explain how incredibly proud of them I am. I was feeling kind of out of it lately, but this was the inspiration I needed. To see these kids being so supportive of each other...and to be there to support them myself as well...it was truly amazing. Dave was right, it was one of the most meaningful nights I've had here.
