It's Wimbledon time again! It's one of those yearly events that never fails to make me smile. Thanks to my Mother's tennis obsession, I have watched Wimbledon every year since I was born. My first crush was Boris Becker. When its Wimbledon, my Mother can think of nothing else. My brother played the game and loves it too. He and Mum have actually been to it a couple of times too and love to debate about different players.

Now that I have a husband and a flat, I am still watching Wimbledon, texting my Mum about it and cheering as always for the men I love. It's like a disease lol, passed on from mother to daughter. I like it, it connects me to Mum in a really nice way. And I get texts from my Dad saying that Mum is saying some truly shocking things to the TV during the games lol. I love my family.

As always, I adore Rafa Nadal. There's such a powerful beauty to the way he plays and I adore his broken English and his humility and lovely smile. Mum has always said he's piratey, because of the big shorts he used to wear and the bandana. As much as I love Federer's perfect calculated grace, impossible skill and reach, and his utterly genuine emotion after each Wimbledon win, I think I'll always prefer Nadal slightly more. There's something animalistic about Nadal that I'm completely drawn to and want more of.

This year, I also have great admiration for Novak Djokovic who has really powered his way into the top players this year and gotten well deserved wins. I'm really rooting for him. Maybe I've read too many fics centred on him but I really find him delightful and charming and just adorkable. Of course I love Andy Murray - our one British hope - and he's really stepping up his game each year. I much prefer him to Tim Henman who I just found boring to watch and kinda bland on and off the court. I've been astonished by Tsonga's progress. Where has this guy come from? Could he win it? Well, after his win today, anything at all is possible. And I can't wait.

There's been some fantastic matches so far - thank goodness for that centre court roof! - and I'm beyond thrilled that the Williams sisters have been eliminated from this year's competition. I want some other girls to have a winning chance. I'm pulling for Sharapova because I think she's lovely. But the other remaining girls are equally interesting. For the first time in a while for me, the women's game is getting compelling.

Also, in this stinking hot weather, Wimbledon is one of the few things that's keeping me going! I love it. My husband puts up with it. For such an avid sports watcher, tennis is one of the few sports that he finds boring to watch. Sadly at this time of year, like my Dad, he has no choice ;)
