sometimes you can't even step outside

I woke up today, saw the nine inches of snow outside and thought how beautiful.  I didn't have work, no place to be, maybe I would take some pictures.  Well, the pictures will be on Facebook shortly but it's amazing how in New York City sometimes just stepping outside can be an adventure.

So I'm standing down between West 179th and West 180th and Cabrini about a block and a half from my apartment.  I'm taking pictures of the lovely snow covered trees and the George Washington Bridge.  I'm not dressed "gay" in the slightest, wearing blah jeans and my big puffy black coat.  Not that attractive.  A man of about thirty, somewhat attractive, white European (I'd say Greek maybe?) comes down the street with a rolly bag and stops.  I keep taking pictures minding my own business.  The following is our conversation from what I can remember:

Man:  "Beautiful isn't it"
Josh:  "Yup.  Thought I'd take some pictures of it."
Man:  "Do you mind if I smoke?"
Josh: "No."  (But why do you have to be right next to me)
Man:  "I'm David." (puts out hand)
Josh: "Josh"  (thinking how weird, why the hell are we shaking hands and doing introductions)
David:  "You have beautiful eyes"
Josh: "Thanks." (Oh shit, I know where this is going, I keep taking pictures preparing when to leave)
David:  "Yeah, I'm trying to get to New Jersey but the bridge was closed.  I have about an hour to waste.  Do you live nearby?"
Josh:  (thinking this is so shady).  "Oh well there is the bus terminal on 175th.  Yes I live close."  (Why the hell were you trying to cross the bridge into New Jersey with your rolly bag in nine inches of snow?)
David:  "Do you have roommates?"
Josh:  "Yes, two"  (I should have just said I had a boyfriend)
David: "Are they home?
Josh: "Yes" (prepping my exit, that was a lie, only Jon, my roomie's kinda boyfriend is home)
David: "What is your background?" (oh jeez, everyone's favorite question to the biracial kid)
Josh:  "My mom is black, dad is white."
David: "What's her origin?"
Josh:  "African and Jamaican"
David: "Oh yes...Jamaican" (giving me I'm so horny eyes, I'm REALLY ready to leave now)
Josh:  "yeah...." (real awkward, a couple moments go by)
David:  " I want to kiss you"
Josh:  (my cue to leave).  "I gotta go."
David goes back to smoking his cigarette like he propositions people for quick hook ups several times a day.
Josh books it around the corner hoping he is not being followed back into his apartment.

So that was my adventure.  This is the second time this month I've been propositioned after a guy gave me his number as I was exiting the subway and said: "I don't want to be too forward but I think you're beautiful and I'm living in Brooklyn so give me a call if you want to hang out".

Ugh....should these events make me feel good about myself?

Oh New York.

You just gotta laugh.
