Complete A Puzzle

Well, this trip had some ups and it had some downs. Overall, we're going to give this a 'Good' rating.

Everything actually went quite smoothly. I had my doubts at first, actually, because I've never had a completely enjoyable experience in going to Mexico before, and I've been there several times. No, nothing went horribly wrong - I didn't forget any essentials, didn't catch any sort of sickness, and didn't cause an international incident. But the country is not without its differences in culture and sensibilities, so I can't say that there weren't drawbacks and pitfalls to avoid.

Ah, but how about the good? First, my friends received me very kindly - they found me a very nice hotel to stay in, almost always drove me around, and treated me to the best Yucatan cuisine around. All this, even while they were both very busy putting the final touches on their wedding. I swear, it seemed as though they were making every effort to fatten me up while I was there; every time I turned around, there was another plate full of food shoved in front of me at every meal. We had a lot of fun, and I got to visit another Mayan ruin that I hadn't had the pleasure of seeing before - predictably, it was almost all that I took pictures of.

As for the ceremony itself, it was spectacular. It took place in an incredibly beautiful church, and the events were all according to incredibly ornate Roman Catholic traditions. I'm not of the faith myself, but I've always been fascinated by the pomp and circumstance they follow, and the amazingly detailed old paintings within the church, around the walls and ceilings are quite stunning.

I will say, though, I'm glad to be back home. The moment I arrived at my apartment, I couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief to feel nice, soft carpet underneath my feet instead of hard, dirty tile or coarse, rocky sand. That was one of the major drawbacks - not necessarily a negative thing regarding the country, but not something that I particularly enjoy. There are also the excessive amounts of mosquitoes, and some of the people you meet are not always the kindest or most friendly; again, not specific to Mexico, but still A Thing. Maybe I'm just soft.

Another thing? Every time there was a chance for a 'RANDOM SECURITY SCREENING' during this trip, I was selected. Every. Time. Nothing better than having all of your belongings rifled through by some random goof who gives zero fucks about how carefully you packed everything - let's just toss your pressed dress pants around for a bit, and then maybe drop a few pairs of your boxer shorts on the floor, hmm? Oh, and while we're here, we'll loosen the cap on your bodywash so it leaks on all of your other stuff!

And there were a few times where I was left to fend for myself, which is pretty scary. This isn't like going on a cruise or to a resort or to some other controlled environment - this is REAL LIFE, in a foreign country, in a very large city, where you haven't mastered the language. Kind of scary. I did manage to get myself lost a few times.

But now I am back, and enjoying the simple pleasure of being able to walk around on a soft, comfortable surface. Still have to unpack and get things cleaned up. I suppose I still have some other thots, because a few other things of significance took place, but I'm not sure if I want to put them in writing.
