How Do I Join F.U.N. Forums?
LiveJournal's FAQ provides step by step instructions on how to join a community and read its entries on your Friends page here You might also find their FAQ - Communities post helpful as well.
How Do I Join F.U.N. Forums?
That's the easy part. Go to the profile page (aka the user page) of fun_forums. Read Our Terms Of Service And Community Rules. Then click Join The Community and you're a member of the fun_forums.
Communities have three types of membership: Open Membership, Moderated Membership and Closed Membership. Currently fun_forums has an Open Membership. The posts within the community are marked Public and can be seen by everyone. However, the community may change in the future to a Moderated Membership. If this occurs you will need to be a member of the community to view members only postings. To ensure you don't miss a thing, please create a livejournal and click join the community.
After joining, please be a member AND a friend. If you don't have the community on your friends list, you really can't contribute, can you? Be an active member and participate in forum discussions.

Posting Guidelines:
1: Introduce yourself in the most recent "Two Cents" Discussion thread. It is always nice to learn a bit about our members and guests.
2: Simple "Netiquette" is expected here! An explanation of Net Etiquette can be found in detail here. Learn it. Follow it. Respect your fellow members, no flaming, no trolling. Share your feed back but don’t be hateful to others.
3: Utilizing the Daily Discussion threads Once the community becomes inhabited and more people join, there will be a daily discussion thread posted for general "conversation" and "convention questions". This thread should be used for questions, shout outs, general conversation and silliness. We utilize one thread for posts such as this to cut down on the number of posts seen by our members on their friends list. Obviously, if these types of responses were posted individually it would generate an overwhelming number of meaningless posts to our members Flist (Friends List) and become quite a chore to scroll through and read. We prefer to keep the forums tidy. :)
4: Creating and posting your own news discussion thread
There IS a format for posting in fun_forums Please utilize this format when creating and sharing your own articles, photographs and information.
Guests are encouraged to open their own topic threads to share numismatic news and private photos which are numismatic in nature. However, members may NOT create a post to advertise their own business, as solicitation is forbidden within FUN_Forums
Please DO NOT open a topic thread if your post does not include something to “share” with the community as your post would probably be better suited for the “chat thread”.
Helpful Hints For Remaining LJ Friendly & Keeping Your Friends List Happy!
When To Use An LJ-Cut What Is An LJ Cut And When Do I Use It?
LJ etiquette suggests that graphics, photographs and posts with rambling text be placed under an Lj-cut. This is done as a courtesy to those people on your friends list. In our case it would be our Members friends list as they have “friended” our community forum. It eliminates the need for excessive scrolling on their part and makes for a cleaner journal entry.
For those forum members creating a topic thread please keep these rules in mind when designing your topic thread layout (i.e. post)
1: Font Size on the face of a topic thread: Nothing over font size 5 should be used in the title of your post.
2: Long involved posts should be placed behind an LJ Cut. Please read How do I hide part of my entry behind a link? (i.e What is an lj-cut?)
4: Screen Captures from video, You Tube Videos, Graphic work, & generally large pictures should be placed behind an LJ cut.
5: If you use a picture or banner on the face of your topic thread it MUST be 320 x 240 or 500 x 100 or smaller only.
How Do I Add Images To My Entries?
Add an image to your entries by using the Insert Image button on the Post an Entry page. (If you have a Paid, Permanent, or Plus account, the Insert Image button lets you upload images to ScrapBook and post images from your ScrapBook galleries in your journal. You can also use HTML, Photobucket, or ScrapBook's Post to Journal option to add images to your entries. To add images to your comments or profile, you must use HTML. Photo Sharing Websites
ScrapBook, LiveJournal's photo hosting feature, is available to the Plus and Paid account levels. You may read more about it here
Although, I prefer to use Photo Bucket to host any images I share on line. It's a free and reliable service.
Photo Bucket Photobucket is an image hosting, video hosting, slideshow creation and photo sharing website. Photobucket is usually used for personal photographic albums, remote storage of avatars displayed on internet forums, and storage of videos. Photobucket's image hosting is often used for eBay, MySpace, Bebo, Neopets, and Facebook accounts, LiveJournals, Open Diarys, or other blogs, and message boards. Users may keep their albums private, allow password-protected guest access, or open them to the public.
Other photo sharing sites you might find helpful.
ImageShack No registration required except to get a direct link to an image when uploading. ImageShack is a free image hosting website. ImageShack has a subscription service but the majority of its revenue is produced from advertising related to its free image hosting.
TinyPic free image hosting, no registration required. TinyPic is a photo and video sharing service, that allows users to upload, link and share, images and videos on the Internet. The idea is similar to URL shortening in which each uploaded image is given a relatively short internet address. An account is not required to use TinyPic.
Banner size compliance
This issue has been discussed on internet forums for years. Some people love graphic heavy posts. Others hate them. Posts which are graphic heavy are difficult for users still on dial up. Therefore a comfortable size for everyone is the medium setting on Photo Bucket Therefore, no banners or images placed before an LJ-Cut should exceed 320 x 240 the "medium" setting for resizing on PhotoBucket. It is larger than most retail film sites. The only exception is our thread banners which are 600 x 100.
If you want to post larger images in your post. Simply post the images Behind an LJ cut. Use the format for posting to create a lead in title and go straight to the cut. That is fine. But all images before a cut must be 320 x 240 or 600 x 100. Thank you for your understanding and compliance.
How To Resize, Edit & Decorate Your Photo In Photobucket
Just above your picture you will see edit | move | share | delete
Click Edit
A new page will appear with an entire tool bar of options
To Resize click “Resize”
To get the 320 x 240 quickly Click the little arrow on “preset sizes”
Option “Medium” is 320 x 240. Click THAT & it quickly re-sizes the photo to the size you want for fun_forums.
Click Apply
Click SAVE A Copy and you have the re-sized picture.
Do you need to decorate your image?
Above the tool bar you will see tabs
Click Decorate
Click Stickers Then choose your design
The design will appear.
Drag the design and place the image where you want it.
When you’re finished click Apply
Click Save A Copy and you have decorated your image.
Converting Your Facebook to A LiveJournal
How do I convert my OpenID, Facebook, or Twitter account into a LiveJournal account?
If you are currently using a Facebook Connect, Twitter, or OpenID account, you can upgrade it to a full LiveJournal account using the following steps:

How can I use my Facebook, Twitter, or other account with LiveJournal?
LiveJournal offers the ability to log into LiveJournal with your credentials from a select number of other social networking sites. You can log into LiveJournal using your other site's account in one of two ways:
* From the Home Page, click the Facebook icon (), or the Twitter icon (). For other sites, click the button to view and select from a list of available websites. From the next page, click the "Login" button for the site you wish to use. You may be directed to that site to authorize logging into LiveJournal with your username and password.
* When posting a comment to a journal, click the drop-down menu with the LiveJournal userhead to select the site you wish to use to comment. Type your comment and click "Submit", then follow the prompts to log into your other account.
With a Facebook, Twitter, or other site account on LiveJournal, you can:
* Post comments to any journal that allows comments from registered users
* Post entries in communities on LiveJournal.
* Add users to your Friends list to view their entries on your Friends page.
Other users can also list your Facebook or Twitter account as a friend. This gives you access to their friends-only entries.
* Join communities and watch their entries on your Friends page.
* Edit your profile.
* Upload userpics (up to 15). You can choose one of these pictures when you post a comment.
* Customize the appearance of your Friends page.
* Create custom groups of friends for filtered viewing of your Friends page.
* Subscribe to up to 200 events.
* Receive email notification of all replies to your comments.
* Add entries to your Memories.

Posting To A Community
What is a community?
A LiveJournal community is a journal where many users post entries about a similar topic. Users who are interested in a particular subject can find or create a community for this subject. For example, residents of a town or city can use a community to exchange local information and announce local events. After you find and join an interesting community, you can post comments or entries to the community.
How do I post an entry in a community? Before posting an entry in a community, you will usually need to join it, as posting access is often granted with membership.

Utilize Tags

Everything you wanted to know is right at your fingertips. It is really just that easy. :)
