While it is true, Florida United Numismatist's "FUN Show" only happens twice a year, the FUN machine tirelessly works behind the scenes Three Hundred And Sixty-Five days a year to serve its members.
Florida United Numismatists is a State of Florida chartered, non-profit organization dedicated to the education and enrichment of numismatics in our State and beyond. Some consider Florida United Numismatists a regional coin show. Well, I am here to tell you, FUN has grown to be so much more. In Fact, Florida United Numismatists (FUN) is now one of the largest numismatic conventions in the world. That is evident when reviewing the record number of dealers and collectors on FUN's bourse floor last January during the 58th Annual FUN Show.
There was certainly something for every one of the 15 thousand guests that browsed FUN's bourse floor. The show featured 614 booths, over 2000 coin dealers, the largest exhibit area in FUN's history with participants from 15 states, record attendance for our FREE educational seminars and a spectacular Young Numismatist program. Which included our new FOTO FUN and Coins & Kids booth.
Yes, Florida United Numismatists is definitely growing larger each year and we have those who promote FUN throughout the calendar year via FUN's new social networking sites, FUN Topics magazine and "promotional travel" to thank. Cindy Wibker, FUN Convention Coordinator, FUN Secretary Donna Moon & FUN Vice President Bob Hurst recently traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana to promote FUN during the National Money Show. Cindy and Donna collected applications for Summer FUN and the 2014 59th Annual FUN show in January. The ladies fielded questions from dealers and collectors, sold lifetime and annual membership to Florida United Numismatists and met with FUN members and friends from FUN's social media forums. Cindy, who is an ANA certified exhibit judge, was asked to judge various exhibits and happily compiled.
It was nice to meet some of FUN's "friends" from Twitter & Pinterest. In March of 2011, Donna Moon and I introduced FUN to social media, creating FUN's Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube Channel FUN Convention TV, and the FUN Forums Blog. Social Media allows us to better serve our members, as well as the collectors and hobbyist who attend our annual conventions, by helping us keep our finger on the pulse of FUN by opening the lines of communication between FUN and the numismatic community. Daily interaction with those "following" FUN's social media forums allows us to improve our show while providing educational information, convention updates, and more to those interested in numismatics. In fact, FUN's new social media is responsible for an increased interest in our shows. It has allowed us to reach dealers around the world. FUN's January show included new dealers from Spain, Brazil, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, Nova Scotia, Netherlands and all over the United States. Now if we could just convince the World Mints to follow their fellow citizens lead and travel to FUN as well!
In closing, you cannot write an article about "promoting the FUN organization" without mentioning our magazine. FUN-Topics the official publication of the Florida United Numismatists, Inc. is published quarterly. Mr. Jim Best, FUN Topics Editor is assisted by his wife Carrie. Together they strive to provide interesting articles and content for publication. In addition, FUN welcomes advertisements from our fellow numismatists. Help support FUN by reaching out to our members and the subscribers of FUN Topics Magazine throughout the year.
