I can't stand watching people suffer so much, when I beleive that I could help them, if not cure them, given a month. I get really frustrated because I want to fix everybody. I know that that's horrible, but it's just this nuturing side of me that wants to make everybody feel good. My roomate is on her way to the doctor to get x-rays and probable blood tests because her cough has lasted over 3 weeks. They're going to prescribe her antibiotics. She'll refuse to take them, and that will be that. They'll say "get more rest", or "the problem is in your right lung", without looking at her lifestyle or even trying to find out what the cause really is. they'll say "you caught something, take these." and then they'll bill her insurance, feed their families, and she'll go home just as sick as before.
It's not that I don't trust doctors, I do. I trust them to do their jobs, and I trust them to use what they've learned in medical school to treat diseases and injuries. But all they're trained to do is treat them. They're not trained to cure them, and they're not trained to prevent them. If they did, they'd lose most of their business. And I don't think doctors are necessarily trying to keep everyone sick to make more money either, but I do think that the medical field is set up that way. Doctor's are doing the best they can within a screwed up health system. All health insurance should cover Naturopathic doctors and nutritional councelling. If people were allowed to get to the root of their medical problems instead of masking them until they get sicker and eventually die, then there wouldn't be such a strain on health care and everyone would stop pissing me off so much.
