Summary: Minho is bored. It seems like he's fucked at least every single (and sometimes not) were-something or other in the city. Being a jaguar, it's common to be on your own, opting instead to sell yourself to other prides and pards to ensure the big cat lineage. But he's sick of all the big cat bullshit. He'd much rather sink his teeth into the cute new bobcat in town, and Minho doesn't know the term 'off limits'.
Five Years Later
"...ninety nine... one hundred!" Key shouted, turning around as fast as his encumbered body would let him. When he spotted no one right away, he growled, "Sure, make the pregnant guy seek, cause that's fair."
Jinki stayed still behind the tree trunk, a giggling Yoogeun clinging to his side. "Did daddy put you up to this?" he sighed, which only made the boy giggle louder. Usually Yoogeun liked to hide with one of the others, Jinki being boring, as Yoogeun put it, yet here he was glued to his side, wide eyes attentive.
Key's ears twitched as he listened for movement, feet bringing him slowly closer to Jinki's tree. The bobcat tried to scurry away, but Yoogeun grabbed at his legs, pulling at him to stay put. Definitely Minho's doing.
"Not today, trouble maker," Jinki growled playfully, scooping the boy up under one arm and darting farther into the forest.
"I saw that, cat!" Key screamed in annoyance.
"But you still have to tag me," he laughed back.
"Yeah yeah, just remember, no tree climbing! Red foxes don't climb trees."
"Especially not when pregnant," a voice murmured directly behind him. Key spun around and tagged Jonghyun within seconds, not that his mate was trying to get away in the first place.
"Jeeze, Jjong, at least try to make this fun."
"It will be fun, now that I'm on your team, that is. We don't need little Jonghyun junior coming out before he's ready, now do we? You just relax under that tree over there, mommy dearest."
"I told you not to call me that," Key grumbled, but listened to him anyway, waddling over to a particularly large oak and plopping down beneath it in a huff.
Jonghyun found Taemin no problem, simply for the fact that coyotes just weren't made for hiding like cats, or even foxes, were, the two brothers always being the first to be found when it came to this game. In the end, it usually came down to Key or Jinki winning, but with Key so close to his due date his doctor had advised him to put a hold on shifting until after the baby was born. Jonghyun, being the overbearing idiot he was, was making sure Key did just that, and then some. Key often complained that his mate wouldn't let him do anything without him. He bitched about it a lot, but it was obvious to all that the fox shifter secretly enjoyed it.
Jinki crouched down low, a finger to his lips as he informed Yoogeun to keep quiet. Big eyes stared up at him innocently until he finally nodded, a grin on his little face. Jinki ruffled the boy's hair affectionately before peeking his head around the trunk, watching in satisfaction as Jonghyun and Taemin both left in opposite directions. Safe for now.
The rule for this particular game of hide and seek was almost like being blindfolded, except on your nose. No scenting of any kind allowed, at least not when they were in human form and had to stay on the ground. If tree climbing was involved, anything was fair game, if only because half of their ragtag pack couldn't climb at all in their animal forms. Honestly, it wasn't even fun to play with these kinds of rules, but it was Yoogeun's favorite game, and what Yoogeun wanted, he got. He was a bit too much like his father in that aspect, Jinki frowned.
He sighed in relief as he watched the coyotes run off, his guard lowering even as Yoogeun began tugging at his hand, his eyes looking up.
"What-" he began, but a hand now clamped over his mouth had him stopping mid-sentence, eyes widening as he and his assailant tumbled to the ground in a flurry of limbs.
"Tag, you're it," Minho whispered playfully, planting a kiss on Jinki's now uncovered lips.
"That's cheating," he growled up at him.
"That's not how you play, daddy, you aren't even the seeker," Yoogeun said with a sigh. Now that he got from Jinki.
"Is that right?" Minho asked skeptically, looking puzzled for added effect. "My bad, I forgot."
"You seem to have a rather selective memory when it comes to a lot of things," Jinki said drily before pushing the jaguar shifter off of him.
"Still mad about that, are you?" Minho asked sheepishly.
"Yoogeun," Jinki said calmly, kitten looking over at him knowingly. "Cover your ears and turn around for a second." The boy did as instructed, giving Minho an 'oooh, you're in troubleeee' face before finally giving them his back.
"Come on babe, it was one time," Minho whined.
"One time of me having to wait up until four in the morning to make sure you're even alive! You can't just tell me you're investigating a potential murder and may have found the suspect's house and then not respond to any of my messages!" Minho opened his mouth to argue, but Jinki continued, "and then you have the audacity to come home drunk in a police car, sirens wailing, screaming about a job well done, successfully waking Yoogeun and anyone else within a five mile radius up! No more hanging out with your wolf friends, I mean it this time!"
Ever since Minho had joined the force as a tracker not two years ago, more and more of these kinds of situations kept happening, and more often than not, the blame always came down to the idiotic wolves he liked to call friends. Yoogeun actually loved it when the wolf pack came over to play, but to Jinki, 15 wolves was 15 too many.
Minho pouted over at him, crawling towards him on all fours.
"No. Jaguar, no, I'm seri-" but Minho had already pounced, Yoogeun finally turning back around to see what was taking so long and jumping on top of Jinki as well in excitement. "You are so not getting any for a month," he muttered under his breath at the bottom of the cat pile they had formed.
"Quit with the act, kitten, you know you like being dominated," Minho purred for his ears only, biting at Jinki's throat before leaning back slightly to enjoy the flush that spread over Jinki's cheeks at that comment.
"You know," a new voice said beside them, "the game would last a lot longer if you guys didn't always end up hiding together."
"Dog!" Yoogeun shouted happily, running over and latching onto Jonghyun's leg.
"I'm not a dog, I'm a coyote," he pouted, but picked Yoogeun up and spun him around anyway when the child demanded it, arms reaching up expectantly. "Come on, you, it's nap time. Taemin already took Key back into the house. We'll get in a big puppy pile in the living room, it'll be great."
"Kitty pile," Yoogeun argued as they walked off, or more like, Jongyun walked off with Yoogeun on his shoulders.
"It's just an expression, kid," Jonghyun laughed, turning back to eye the two cat shifters still on top of each other. "You guys coming? Or do we need to play babysitter for a few hours?" When Minho just smiled wide, Jonghyun rolled his eyes, running off back to the house, a giggling Yoogeun screaming for him to go faster. "You're so demanding," Jonghyun whined, but sped up nonetheless, eyes glowing.
"I don't know what you're expecting," Jinki growled when they were finally alone. "I already said no."
"Oh, but I need to prove a point," Minho whispered back, lowering his lips slowly, his mouth hovering inches from Jinki's own, until finally the bobcat got fed up with waiting and slammed his lips against his mate's.
An act of dominance? Maybe, but they both knew who controlled the relationship, and Minho wouldn't have it any other way.
