My financial planner recommended
this book, and I have to tell you, the author is s.m.a.r.t. I learned some amazing things about the credit game and also finally had "amunition" to prove to my hubby that on occassion, credit is a good thing and that to have good credit, one must use credit regularly and responsibly! (He has long been one of those cash only guys, including major purchases like cars and such.)
Not that I have bad credit by any means, but the over-achiever in me wants perfect credit--it's the same thing that drives me to get freakin' straight A's and other insane things like that. But that's entirely beside my point--back when I had L. in Sept. 2004, we were late with one credit card payment (I thought hubby had taken care of it that month because well...I was busy doing other things, like having his child, but that's beside the point too; I digress.) Following the author's advice, I wrote to the three different credit agencies and told them there was an error (because we weren't 30 days late, but 29 and we have the payment records to prove it fortunately), and could they please remove the error from my credit report? Within three weeks, it was off all three reports and last month when my score was re-evaluated, it went up 39 points!!!! I had to call my hubby on the Bat Phone at his work just to tell him the exciting news. Now my credit rating is just about damn near perfect and I couldn't be happier.
So get it, read it, and give it a try. I am still giggling about it and will all the way to the bank, but first I have to go clean the toy that L. just shoved a chewy fruit bar into.
