My opinion of Bemidji State in the last few minutes has just decreased dramatically. My opinion of them was very high with their new arena named the Bemidji Regional Events Center. Now my feelings about Bemidji are dramatically reduced, since apparently the arena name is now a corporate named arena. Bemidji, you gave me hope for the sports world and now you just trashed it, thanks. So, I myself will call it the BREC, or Bemidji Arena, or "Beavers Building", or something to that extent.
Anyhow.... UMD is in Bemidji this weekend. The Beavers opened their new weekend a couple of weekends against the North Dakota Fighting Sioux (both nights were Sioux 5-2 wins). Jordan George leads Bemidji with 2 goals, with Matt Read and Jamie MacQueen each having one. Dan Bakala started both games against the Fighting Sioux.
For UMD, the Connollys and Fontaine are back at it in their offense production. Fontaine has 12 points (4 goals), Mike Connolly has 11 points (5 goals), and Jack Connolly has 10 points (3 goals). Travis Olaksuk has 4 goals. Amazingly, three of them are game winners. Mike Seidel and Oleksuk are tied for the "Michael Gergen award" for most penalty minutes, with 17 each. Kenny Reiter and Aaron Crandall have split minutes the last couple of series (Reiter played both games of the Superiod Showcase).
This series has been a close one. In 2002 UMD won 12-0 at Bemidji, but since then the series has been a close one. The biggest difference since then was a 5-1 Bemidi win in 2005, all others have been 3 goals or less difference.
Polls: UMD #3 (1 first place vote), Bemidji Unranked (listed in Others receiving votes)
Keep in mind the stats are pretty streched out. From 2000 until this season, UMD never played more than one game in Bemidji and some of the years they didn't play in Bemidji at all.
