Prologue One Two Three Four Five Six “What? No!” Selena screamed, trying to fight off the bailiff. “Can I at least say goodbye?” she cried, turning to face Judge DeGeneres.
"Take the cuffs off and let her say goodbye to her family. I don't think Mrs. Lovato is going to run," said Judge DeGeneres with a smile.
Selena thankfully smiled at Judge DeGeneres through her tears while the bailiff took off her handcuffs. She turned to Demi with tears in her eyes. “I’m so sorry,” she whispered, walking towards her.
Demi held her hands up in front of her indicating that she didn't want Selena near her. "You ruined everything Selena. I should have never taken you in. You gave me a perfect family only to rip it away again!" yelled Demi.
“What?” Selena whispered, stopping dead in her tracks. She didn’t know where Demi’s sudden turnaround was coming from. “My world has been falling in pieces to the ground lately, I really don’t know what pieces to save and you’re not making it any easier.”
Tears were pouring down Demi's face, she didn't mean to blow up at Selena, but everything was falling apart. Demi fell on her knees. "No, I'm sorry I don't regret it. I just don't know what to do. I can't lose you," sobbed Demi as she covered her face with her hands.
“Shh,” Selena said, kneeling down next to Demi and holding her in her arms while closing her eyes. “Please promise me you’ll take care of Hayley for God knows how long I’ll be in there.”
Demi hugged Selena tightly. "I will take care of our daughter, but I promise you that I will get you out of there as soon as I can. Our family will be whole again Selena. I'm not losing you now that I have found you," said Demi as she cried into Selena's chest.
Selena lifted Demi’s chin so that she could press a long, tender kiss on her lips before pulling back. “Hales,” she whispered, walking over to her daughter and kneeling down in front of her, tears still falling down her cheeks. “You be good to your Momma okay? I need you to take care of her.”
"Where mommy going?" asked Hayley with tears in her eyes because her mothers were crying. "I go too," she sobbed.
“No, Hayley, you have to stay with Momma,” Selena said, trying her best to stay strong. “I have to leave and I don’t know for how long,” she whispered, holding her arms open. “Gimme a hug.”
Hayley hugged her mommy as if she never wanted to let go. "I love you," she cried.
“I love you too, baby, but Mommy has to go now,” Selena whispered, yet wrapping her arms tightly around her daughter. “Kiss,” she added, pulling back from the hug and puckering her lips.
Hayley kissed her mommy and then ran into her momma's arms to bury her head in her chest as she sobbed uncontrollably.
Selena stood up and pecked Demi’s lips once again. “I love you,” she smiled, turning towards Judge DeGeneres. “I-I’m ready.”
The bailiff escorted Selena out as her family watched tearfully.
The Lautner's attorney approached Judge DeGeneres. "My clients would like to at least have visitation rights," said the attorney.
“Objection!” Sophia yelled again, standing up. “Mr. And Mrs. Lautner are as vicious as their son and left a sixteen year old boy in charge of an eleven year old girl, they should not have visitation rights!”
Judge DeGeneres turned towards Demi and Sophia. "I will grant the Lautner's visitation rights every other weekend until the next court date as long as it is a supervised visit," said Judge DeGeneres.
“We would like to have Dallas Lovato as our witness,” Sophia requested, crossing her arms over her chest.
Judge DeGeneres raised an eyebrow, but decided that if Sophia was calling a witness at this point she had a good reason. "Mrs. Dallas Lovato please take the witness stand," said Judge DeGeneres.
Dallas sat and looked over the court room confidently. She knew her sister and Selena were great parents. The Lautners had no right to intervene in their life’s.
The bailiff approached Dallas. "Mrs. Lovato do you swear to speak only the truth," he asked as he swore her in.
"Yes," answered Dallas.
Sophia walked in front of Dallas, her arms still crossed. “Mrs. Dallas Lovato, is it true that you have witnessed Dan and Deb Lautner threatening the Lovato family in the zoo?”
"Yes," answered Dallas.
“Did they scare Hayley?” Sophia asked, putting her hands on her hips while pacing back and forth.
"Yes, she started crying," said Dallas forgetting that she was only supposed to respond yes or no.
"Yes or no answers Mrs. Lovato," said Judge DeGeneres.
“Would you care to explain how you see the relationship between daughter and mothers?” Sophia asked, looking at Judge DeGeneres to see if it was an appropriate question.
"Proceed," said Judge DeGeneres.
"Hayley really adores her mothers and they adore her. She is a happy child who is always laughing and giggling. They have the means to buy her anything she wants, but she is not spoiled. They teach her to be polite and well mannered," said Dallas.
“No further questions,” Sophia smiled, taking place behind the table.
“Permission to ask questions?” the other attorney, Mike, asked as he stood up from his seat.
"Permission granted," said Judge DeGeneres.
“Mrs. Lovato, have Mrs. and Mrs. Lovato ever openly showed their affection in front of the three year old girl?” he asked, walking up in front of Dallas.
"Yes, they love each other, there's nothing wrong with that," defended Dallas.
"Yes or no, Mrs. Lovato. I will not remind you again," said Judge DeGeneres.
“My point is, if Hayley only stays with two girls, she would not know a relationship with a boy would be possible. Therefore, she’s in need of a father in her life, especially at such a young age,” Mike explained. “No further questions, but if Mrs. Demi Lovato agrees, I would like to have her step onto the witness stand.”
Demi nodded in agreement as she walked towards the stand. She had nothing to hide.
The bailiff approached Demi. "Mrs. Lovato do you swear to speak only the truth," he asked as he swore her in.
"Yes," answered Demi looking at the Lautners.
“Mrs. Lovato, is it true that you have threatened Mrs. Lautner, saying you would kill her if she comes near your family?” Mike asked, crossing his arms over his chest with a grin.
"Yes," answered Demi as she kept her eyes on Deb.
“And is it true that you have punched Mr. Lautner once and that you have attacked Mrs. Lautner in front of your parents’ garage?” Mike questioned, raising his eyebrow.
“Objection! It was in self defense!” Sophia yelled, slamming her hands on the table again.
"Do you have proof that it was self defense?" asked Judge DeGeneres.
Sophia gritted her teeth, but Mike spoke up. “Did Mr. Lautner have his hands on you? Or Mrs. Lautner for that matter?”
"No," answered Demi.
“There you go, judge, it was not self defense, Mrs. Lovato clearly has anger issues,” Mike answered, sitting down behind the table.
Ellen shook her head and slammed the gavel. "I award full custody to the Lautners. I am sorry Mrs. Lovato but you need to complete an anger management program before I can consider putting Hayley back in your care," said Judge DeGeneres.
“I ask for a second hearing to give us time to collect proof and get the custody of Hayley Amanda Lovato back!” Sophia screamed, jumping in front of the table.
“Granted," said Judge DeGeneres. "You have forty eight hours to gather the proof."
“I’m sorry, Demi, that’s the best I can do,” Sophia whispered, walking towards Demi to hug her tightly.
Demi hugged Sophia and then knelt next to Hayley's chair. "Baby, you need to go with your grandparents for a little while, but I will come get you soon," said Demi trying not to cry for Hayley's sake.
"Yay, I get to pay with Auntie Maddie," she said happily.
Demi's heart broke. "No baby your other grandparents," she said pointing to the Lautners. "They are Taylor's parents," she explained. "Taylor was a friend of ours who died, so they want to be you're grandparents. I will pick you up soon," promised Demi.
"No wanna go," cried Hayley clinging to Demi's neck. "Me stay with Momma. Pees, me be good," begged Hayley.
Dan walked over to the two and held out his hand. “Come on Hayley, time to go,” he smiled with the fakest smile he could manage, but Judge DeGeneres wouldn’t be able to tell because he had his back towards her and he suddenly acted nice whenever someone looked.
Deb followed Dan. "Let's go sweetie. We have lots of toys for you to play with and we'll get you a cute little puppy," said Deb.
Hayley clung to her momma, but Deb pulled her away with a smile. "Say bye to Demi," said Deb.
Dan picked Hayley up and took her outside to his car, buckling her up in the
backseat. “You’ll like it,” he said with a grin, climbing in the driver’s seat.
Inside, Sophia took Demi’s hand and led her outside where Dan started the car. “We’ll get her back, Dems, I promise,” she whispered.
Demi nodded and headed to her car without speaking. Her perfect world had just fallen apart and she didn't even want to think about Selena's reaction when she found out the Lautner's had Hayley.
"Hey little sis give me the keys. I'll drive, you are in no condition to drive," said Dallas as she took the keys from Demi and climbed into the drivers seat.
Demi sat in the passenger seat refusing to speak to any one.
"Hales aren't you excited. We are gonna buy you everything you want," cooed Deb.
"Only Momma and Mommy call me Hales. Not you," said Haley sticking her tongue out at Deb and closing her eyes so that she didn't have to look at her.
“Well, mommy is in jail and momma won’t be around,” Dan explained, pulling up at their house. “So say welcome to your new house.”
Hayley started crying. "No, no, no. Want my Mommy and Momma. Not you," yelled Hayley.
“Not gonna happen,” Dan answered, taking Hayley out of the car and holding her in his strong arms as he took her inside.
Deb took Hayley from Dan. "Let her cry if she wants, but we won't listen to her," said Deb opening a door and sitting Hayley on the carpet. "Cry all you want princess. You're Mommy and Demetria can't help you," she said locking the door behind her.
"She my Momma!" yelled Hayley banging on the door with her little fists and kicking it in anger.
Dan busted into the room and sat down on the bed, taking Hayley next to him. “Listen to me, Hales,’” he said, deliberately using that name. “Demetria is not your mommy, two girls cannot have a baby. Only a mommy and a daddy can. Demetria has been lying to you. Taylor, our son is your father.”
"No, she my Momma!" yelled Hayley again as she kicked Dan and curled up into a ball in the corner of the room crying loudly. "Leave me lone. Want my Momma and Mommy. Not yucky Taylor. Me no want a daddy. Want my two mommies!" she screamed and kept crying.
Deb took Dan's arm and dragged him out of the room. "Let the little brat cry. She is going to get tired eventually," she said locking the door.
