Shooter/Caleb posted a video of driving across the Black Rock desert with this song playing in the background. After he killed himself out there, that video had a lot of power. It made an impact. This song is also just a really great song.

Thanks for the one that Caleb had in the background. I had always wondered. And great to start the morning off with a such a good cry, while starring into a picture and his eyes....

and on *that* note

there was this one time where there was no door on the cabover and McSherrif kept driving by in the crisp dawn hours in Gerlach. I think to watch because Caleb flipped open the roof hatch for better head clearance while we were having sex. lol. so much fun. we laughed and laughed but did not stop what we were doing. I miss him so.

Wow, I've had the 'Do You Realize?' video as my gmail status thing for the last few days. http://dai.ly/szkzP

Interesting meme-game-thing, maybe I'll bite?

:) It's a fun game. If morbid for some.

I don't have 5 songs, but I know I'd definitely want this one played...

Ha! My friends and I are always joking about this. We'll hear a song we love and say, "this is one that will play at my funeral." We literally have songs picked out and each other knows what our songs are. When I'm not at work and have time I'll do mine on my lj. How fun! I don't think it is morbid at all! People should know how we want to celebrate our transition!

I'm a godless heathen, but the Christians have some great music, some of which is more spiritual than specifically gospel (although even some gospel is too hopeful to dislike)...
"Pilgrim" by Steve Earle and The Del McCoury Band.
"Death Don't Have No Mercy" by Rev. Gary Davis
"The Soul of a Man?" by Blind Willie Johnson

Not a biker, an outlaw, or likely to have anyone cry at my passing. Probably why I like this one. ;D
"1952 Vincent Black Lightning" by Richard Thompson.

Few could blend beauty and sorrow like Townes Van Zandt.
"Rake"

And you're right, five isn't enough, so last but not least...
"Ashokan Farewell" by Jay Ungar.

Replaced original comment when I realized I had embedded half of YouTube on your comments page. Had never tried embedding video, and got caught up in the process. Sincere apologies.
I really like the Dave Matthews' song, but I think I prefer Willie Nelson's cover.
Excellent post btw.
