I already stayed home before it was cool
The city finally implemented a curfew on Saturday, I think. We don't have that many cases yet, but obviously the earlier you start doing something, the better. I'm not sure about Saturday (maybe it was the last one or the one before), because I usually stay home and due to my choice of background noise I can't tell one day from the other anymore. It's CNN, so everyday it's mostly Covid-19 coverage.
City situation:
Yesterday we had the first 2 deaths in the city. Ugh, our curve started to flatten, but in the last 24 hours we had our sharpest increase of cases. 216 are now confirmed. Meaning there are more, but we won't know how many - we just don't test enough. You won't get a test unless you have symptoms, which is fucking reckless with a disease that can be spread by people without any symptoms!
According to my sister, the insufficient testing is down to not enough staff for analysis. I can't wrap my head around that. If you don't have enough people, get some more from related fields of expertise - that's shit you can do in an exceptional situation as this.
Last I heard (which might already be out of date now - I can only hope) tests were only done at one place, which means infectious people need to go out and might infect uninfected people in line.
I wonder when/if there'll be a test for antibodies. That'll be the way to go.
At least one of our newspapers (there's only one I check and therefore know of) keeps some essential Covid-19 info behind a paywall. WTF?!
Shopping-wise it's not too bad. Only toilet paper and hand sanitizer are hard to get at the moment.
Personal not-much-of-a-situation:
*Sigh* I'm so envious of people who suddenly find themselves at home with more time than they know what to do with. Well, not really the time, but the energy needed to use that time.
If I changed my background noise to anything but news, it'd be life as usual for me. Except for the rare outside stuff I do.
I didn't get to celebrate Friend's birthday with her and it's so weird that we can't yet set a date to make up for it.
Good thing my mom has a garden again. That way she can go out while effortlessly adhering to social distancing.
Sis has been back from Australia since the beginning of the month, but we don't get to see her much. It's not just the pandemic, she has the annoying habit of making herself scarce. Yesterday she finally got furloughed and is now sewing face masks with her flat mate.
