I am back!

Well, I wasn't really away, but my beloved computer was. On Saturday I got the evil Bundespolizei virus which takes up the whole screen and makes your computer unusable.
It pretends to be federal police and tells you they found child porn and terrorist emails on your computer and because of that your computer is blocked, but just pay 100 Euro and it'll get unblocked. Not really sure why, but I took it a bit personal that this virus said I was using Internet Explorer - despite the fact that the other info about my computer (my IP address, ISP) was correct.

I got my computer working in protected mode, but didn't dare go online. I called my mom and because she is awesome like that she came over at 9pm and brought her laptop. With that we checked online how to get rid of that virus.
Well, shit, the only way is to kill Windows and reinstall. When mom went home about 1am she let me keep the laptop.

I spent yesterday doing stuff like saving emails (one at a time - HOLY SHIT, am I glad that I'm using this computer only since February last year! Also, folders are awesome!) and making a list of programs that I'll need to install (and in between I checked Twitter and emails repeatedly, because I hoped that for some reason someone would come up with a simple solution, haha). Good thing I have most of my stuff on an external harddrive!

Then it got to the scary part where I had to format C. I was supposed to do that by using a Windows 7 CD. For some reason I have 2 CDs (one is really shiny, ooh) and had to find out which one to use. Neither gave me the options that I found in that help forum, argh. But I managed the formatting and reinstalling Windows 7. Yay! I even stayed pretty calm during the whole process. Usually computer problems put me in panic & flail mode.

First thing I did was to install an anti-virus program. Then it got complicated again when I tried to make the internet work. I swear technology is trolling me! I tried and tried and it wouldn't work, and then I do something tiny, meaningless and all of a sudden it's working. I downloaded Chrome & Firefox, put my important sites in the favorites bar and when I reached my Flist I read "Sherlock in german on TV ..." in the top entry's metadata.
Fuuuu, because I was so busy with the computer, I had forgotten about it! I turned on the TV with the intention of finding out when/if there'll be a repeat, but the episode wasn't over yet. My timing is so awesome, I managed to catch those awesome last 9 minutes! Hee.
When the episode was over I continued setting up my PC.

Today I installed the rest of the most important programs and it's pretty much back to normal now (*happy sigh* it feels good). And it should be safer.

The Firefox add-on NoScript is awesome, by the way!
