Unbelievable.

Well, I did it again. It's fractured again.
The first time around, I was a freshman. I missed many-a stair and landed the wrong way on my right ankle as I fell. The result? I cracked the plate on the side of my ankle, and fractured off a few pieces of bone, which would from then on float about for the rest ot my life. Minor fracture, in addition to a few pulled muscles. But, it was bad enough to require 2 weeks to heal. Wonderful.
Last summer, 2 days before an expected hurricane, I hit Narrgannsett beach in hopes of catching some massive, storm-driven swells. I got exactly what I wanted, and gradually stepped up to taming bigger and bigger waves as hours passed and the tide came further in. Eventually, however, I foolishly took a pass at a wave that was well above my skill level. The result? I fell off my board about 1/2 way through the ride, got caught in that monster-of-a-wave's undertow, and was dragged into the breakers which I had been surfing near. My ankle cord pulled me further into the breakers as my board was sucked in, by board hit the rocks, snapped into two [and I waved goodbye to $400], and my ankle was again mangled as I, too, struck the rocks, right ankle first. After a second hospital visit for the same ankle as freshman year, I found that I had again fractured the ankle. What was left of the ankle plate from my previous accident had been smashed into oblivion, and I pulled 2 tendons in struggling out of the water. That required 2 weeks healing time for the bones, and another weeks or so before the tendons stopped hurting me. Wonderful times 2.
So, yesterday was a rousing day of school, including a badass game of football in gym. The only downside to playing gym football in the winter is that it's indoors, on the 1/3 of the gym covered in wrestling practice mats. So, I'm running, running, running on defense, but my right foot gets caught underneath one of the wrestling mats that had lifted slightly. At that moment I had preminitions of a nasty face-plant, so before I fell forward, I shifted my weight out of instinct. However, shifting my weight was apparebtly the worse move, as I heard bones crack as I did hit the ground. Being the idiot that I am, though, I got right back up, laughed it off, and continued in the game for the next 10 minutes or so. Until I had to stop running, that is, because the pain was too strong. In turn, I limped my way down to the nurse's office, at which point my ankle completely gave out on me, and I was 100% unable to put any weight on it. After all was said and done, I headed over to Pawtuxet Valley, had a few X-rays taken, and found out exactly what I had heard; when I twisted my ankle, the bone fractures from my previous accident were further ground up and broken apart, turning into smaller, sharper splinters of bone, which had commenced in torturing assorted muscles in my ankle. WONDERFUL.
So, now it's juat another waiting game for this to heal. But it definetely hurts. It hurts a lot. As a matter of fact, I'm willing to bet that this hurts more than the initial fall or my surfing accident.

What's the worst part of this scenario? That would be the fact that this ankle blows many plans of mine completely out of the water. Not only did my school day get screwed over [like I haven't alredy missed enough school], but everything I wanted to do tonight is completely screwed. I was going to stop at work and snag my paycheck, run to the bank and cash it, stop by Wal*Mart and snag some batteries [so I can try out my digital camera tonight], stop at Stop & Shop and get both my mom and Grandma some flowers, stop at Providence Place and got both my mom and Grandma presents, stop at Borelli's and get my grandma some pastry, swing by Petco and pick up a rat carrying case, swing by Evolution Piercings in Downtown to get a couple piercings done, and stop in and visit my Grandma [because I haven't seen her in over a week because of my school/work schedule].
Son of a bee.

I guess there's just one perk to today, though. I have all the time in the world to get my homework done, of which I have a significant amount, the truth be told.
Oh, make that 2 perks, as Ryan was successful in cheering me up 120%. :P

I'm out.
Who knows.
Mayhaps, by some act of God, my ankle will miraculously heal in, oh, let's say, the next hour.
