Serendipity

A slightly warm, very sunny and possibly even springlike day today. I spent it changing the windowbox from last year's pelargoniums (still all going strong and even producing a few flowers) to the one with the spring bulbs, which are all sprouting happily. I also did a bit of cooking (sausages, rice-and-lentils and apple pie) and started tidying up the flat, since that little bit of sunshine revealed many pockets of dust and rubbish, and the lodger is hoping to bring his new girlfriend home tomorrow evening. I've also started to try and deal with the infestation of fruit flies that seem to be everywhere. There's one on the screen as I'm writing this. I've cleared out and disposed of the mouldy fruit at the bottom of the fruit bowl, and half an elderly orange on the floor under the table, which should help, and am now trying to use up the remaining good fruit, hence the apple pie. It turned out surprisingly well, since I layer the sliced fruit with sugar and cinnamon, and accidentally used cumin instead of cinnamon on the first layer. Since I couldn get it off, I just carried on as usual with cinnamon on the other layers, and it actually turned out rather well, with an interesting spicy taste. I may even try the same combination again.
