Yet another not-very-busy week, filled with aimless pottering. I spent most of the weekend flat out with what seems to have been a return of the Mystery Virus. This put me into bed at nine-o'clock on Saturday evening with a temperature of 40 degrees, and saw me feeling perfectly well by Sunday afternoon. I'm seeing the doctor about it tomorrow anyway, as it seems to be happening more and more.
Today was the first time there seems to be a very faint hint of the coming spring in the air, with daffodil shoots just visible, and catkins on the hazel trees in the park. Accordingly, I have swapped the window-box full of extremely dead pelargoniums for the one full of sprouting spring bulbs. I also had a good look round on the roof terrace, and was surprised by the number of things that had survived the winter. The only casualty was my huge jade plant, which I had forgotten to bring inside, but the oleander and myrtle seem fine, and although the lemon verbena looks dead, I fully expect it to recover, because it has done before, even after the soil in its pot had frozen solid. I did remember to take in the calamondin orange, thank goodness, and it is looking rather healthy, with a lot of flower buds. I would have been very sorry to lose that, as it was a present from my father and is over ten years old.
Today I will be making rabbit stew - Budgens also had squirrel this Saturday, but a whole squirrel cost the same as a whole rabbit, so I suppressed my curiosity.
