Getting my money's worth out of the NHS

I finally got round to seeing my doctor today, and found a rather enthusiastic locum there instead. Not only did he check out my knee (despite having obvious trouble keeping tack of which side the replaced hip was), but he also weighed me, took my blood pressure, and sent me off for a range of interesting-looking blood tests. Every time I tried to put my coat on, he thought of something else. He saved the best up for last - as I turned to leave, he asked about the sore on my upper lip. This is a cold sore that appeared last week, and had been healing nicely until I knocked the scab off it on Wednesday, making it bleed again. I told him this, but he insisted on sending me to the dermatology unit at the local hospital, claiming that it looked like a rodent ulcer, which I'm pretty sure it isn't. Now I have something else to worry about I suppose. At best, it will be slightly embarrassing if I turn up at the hospital with nothing but a completely healed cold sore.

knees, disease
