A very blinky, rainbowy, windy day, with bright sun, rain and hail alternating at intervals of only a few minutes. Curious how the rainbow's end where I live always seems to be somewhere in Finsbury Park.
I managed to get out to the library and a few shops, including a pound shop where I bought several compressed blocks of peat-free compost that can be reconstituted into useable compost by adding water and leaving to stand for a while. I've tested it, and it gives a sizeable block of perfectly respectable-looking compost. Non-peat composts have rather a bad name as growing media, but I can always mix in a bit of spent peat compost from last year's gro-bags. If I can find this in larger quantities, it might solve my problem of carrying heavy bags of compost upstairs. I did see
this, which looks like a larger package of the same thing. I'm rather surprised its taken so long for such a product to emerge, since most of the weight of bagged compost is water. I did use something called a gro-board several years ago, which was basically a slab of compressed, dried peat, like a small plank, in a gro-bag bag. I thought this was great, since I could carry three of them home at once, but it looks like I was the only person who bought them, as I've never seen them since.
